Keep or delete? Narrow our girls list please! (BIG list)

We have a lot of names on our girls list, but we can’t agree on one. Siblings are [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name]. Which of these names should we keep and which should we delete? And why? We really need your help!

[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Pollyanna[/name]
[name]Polly[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]

Siblings are [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name].

all of the siblings first names start with a vowel, so I think it would be good to have that with the new girls name as well, so that she doesn’t feel left out (although I don’t know how “left out” that would really make anyone feel).

apart from that I’m just going to tell you what I think of the names in your list

[name]Matilda[/name] - Really like it, she’s going to love the [name]Roald[/name] Dahl book
[name]Imogen[/name] - Great name, starts with a vowel, good choice
[name]Pollyanna[/name] - [name]Don[/name]‘t really like it, it sounds so made up, but that’s just because I don’t know of anybody with that name
[name]Polly[/name] - Better, but it reminds me of those [name]Polly[/name] Pocket Toys, so it seems a bit of an awkward name
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I never really warmed up to the name and will never understand it’s popularity, but when I try really hard to be rational about it, I can see it’s a nice name(If someone can’t get over the name at all they can just call the little one [name]Emmy[/name] or [name]Emily[/name], so that’s not a problem).
[name]Eloise[/name] - very bad [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] associations there, there’s an [name]Eloise[/name] Midgeon in the books who is mentioned as not being very pretty, so that has kind of rubbed off and I don’t think it’s a pretty name anymore.
[name]Scarlett[/name] - Quite nice, but there’s [name]Scarlett[/name] O’[name]Hara[/name] looming in the background
[name]Evelyn[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] choive, nn [name]Evie[/name], starts with a vowel, brilliant choice
[name]Juliet[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] name, the whole shakespearean thing might be a bit of a nuisance, but a cute little baby will easily drown out all thoughts of tragic love
[name]Lydia[/name] - Not bad, a bit too biblical sounding to me, doesn’t really tickle my fancy, but not a bad choice
[name]Amelia[/name] - Very nice, starts with a vowel, [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Earhart[/name] is a great person to share a first name with
[name]Sophie[/name] - Beautiful name, but ever so popular
[name]Victoria[/name] - Good name, but the nn [name]Vicky[/name] is rather annoying to my ear, it’s a good traditional, regal name though
[name]Stella[/name] - Very nice name, lovely meaning
[name]Philippa[/name] - Makes me think of the Children of the Lamp(a book series), there’s a clever, sensible, lovable girl named [name]Philippa[/name] there, so I approve of the name
[name]Eleanor[/name] - I fell in love with this name, I don’t know how many, years ago, starts with a vowel, nn [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Lea[/name] lovely choice
[name]Georgia[/name] - Sounds a bit too sober for me, on the other hand, I think it would go great with the other children
[name]Georgiana[/name] - adding “ana” doesn’t change my opinion about the name, if anything if makes it less fitting with the other names
[name]Genevieve[/name] - There’s a dog in some tv show called [name]Genevieve[/name] and in a [name]Barbie[/name] movie the main character([name]Barbie[/name]) is called [name]Genevieve[/name], soI’ve come to dislike the name.

This makes me sound like I spend all of my time reading or watching tv, which is true to some extent xD

My favourite names from your list are:
[name]Imogen[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Eleanore[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name]

with an honourable mention of [name]Georgia[/name], because it might not be my favourite name, but it goes really well with the siblings.

Thanks a lot Sarahwrightere, you were very helpful!

my pleasure

I would delete :
[name]Imogen[/name] - partly because you already have an I issue and I’m a perfectionist like that, but mainly because I just don’t like this one. That said, stylistically it fits well with your other children’s names, so I don’t think it would be a bad choice for you.

[name]Polly[/name] - I adore this name, but she looks short next to her siblings.

[name]Emmeline[/name] - lovely, but as [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Emily[/name] are so popular, I personally think it wise to avoid all variants.

[name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name] - popular (I really like [name]Sophie[/name], though - perhaps as a middle?).

[name]Evelyn[/name] - unfortunately, the -lyn ending currently vogue makes this one feel trendy, rather than the stylish vintage choice it is.

[name]Lydia[/name] - I love, love, love this name, and stylistically it is wonderful with your older children’s names. However, it shares an awful lot of the sounds of [name]Adelaide[/name], which I personally think makes it out of bounds.

[name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgina[/name] - to me, these feel a little average next to your other children’s names. However, in general I’m not very fond of J sound names for girls, so my opinion is biased.

You might also want to beware the rising popularity of [name]Matilda[/name], and all [name]El[/name]- names which could affect [name]Eloise[/name].

Your list is now :
[name]Matilda[/name] - like I said, beware the popularity rise. Aside from that, a lovely name which fits well with her older siblings. You may also like [name]Ottilie[/name].

[name]Pollyanna[/name] - perhaps a little storybook, but I adore [name]Pollyanna[/name] (and two great nicknames, [name]Polly[/name] and [name]Anna[/name]/ie!) and feel she compliments your other children’s names perfectly.

[name]Eloise[/name] - I’m cautious about repeating an initial, but this is a lovely name.

[name]Juliet[/name] - perfection.

[name]Victoria[/name] - a classic, and very nice with your other children’s names.

[name]Stella[/name] - I personally don’t think it quite comparest to [name]Adelaide[/name], but I left it on the list as I couldn’t really pinpoint way - perhaps it just seems very straightforward?

[name]Philippa[/name] - for the full name I’m not such a fan, but if you plan to nn her [name]Pippa[/name] then that changes things - [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Pippa[/name] would be perfect sisters!

[name]Genevieve[/name] - very nice with your other children’s names.

My favourites :
[name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Pollyanna[/name].
[name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name].
[name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Victoria[/name].
(And [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Pippa[/name].)

Good luck! [name]Auburn[/name]

Thanks [name]Auburn[/name]! You have really helped us! [name]Emmeline[/name] is off the firstname list. Maybe as a middlename but as a firstname I am afraid that I think it sounds too trendy with the others names.

I love [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name].

[name]Matilda[/name]: Keep; it goes very well with your other kids’ names.

[name]Imogen[/name]: Delete; because of the repeating initial thing, but it’s more that I just don’t like the name, so don’t listen to me!

[name]Pollyanna[/name]: Delete; it’s a horribly cutesy name smush. I can’t imagine it as a real name.

[name]Polly[/name]: Delete; I think it’s great as a nickname for [name]Mary[/name]/[name]Penelope[/name]/[name]Paulina[/name].

[name]Emmeline[/name]: Keep; it’s not one of my personal favorites but it’s very nice with your other kid’s names (actually, I’m not sure about [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] together…).

[name]Eloise[/name]: Keep; it’s a great name, if [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] together doesn’t bother you.

[name]Scarlett[/name]: Delete; it’s totally different in style than your other kid’s names.

[name]Evelyn[/name]: Delete; the [name]Ed[/name]-Ev sounds are more similar than the other E names. And they could be called [name]Evvie[/name] and [name]Eddie[/name], which are extremely close in sound.

[name]Juliet[/name]: Keep! I love it, and it’s so perfect with [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], and [name]Isaac[/name].

[name]Lydia[/name]: Keep; it’s one of my favorite names, but like a previous poster said, it’s kind of close to [name]Adelaide[/name].

[name]Amelia[/name]: Keep, but only if you’re not concerned about popularity. It’s a lovely name.

[name]Sophie[/name]: Same as [name]Amelia[/name]. What about [name]Sylvie[/name]/[name]Sylvia[/name]?

[name]Victoria[/name]: Keep; this one is really great with your other kid’s names.

[name]Stella[/name]: Delete; it has more of a trendy feel. Plus I would worry about [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Stella[/name] sounding very close to [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Bella[/name] (that could be just me).

[name]Philippa[/name]: Keep; this fits very well too.

[name]Eleanor[/name]: Keep; I love it in the sibset. It is getting popular, though.

[name]Georgia[/name]: Keep; it’s not my personal favorite, but it goes pretty well.

[name]Georgiana[/name]: Keep; this is a little better than [name]Georgia[/name].

[name]Genevieve[/name]: Keep! I love [name]Genevieve[/name], and it’s perfect with [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], and [name]Isaac[/name]!

My favorites from your list are [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Philippa[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name], but you can’t really go wrong with any of them (except maybe [name]Pollyanna[/name]). Other suggestions:

[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Amelie[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Theresa[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Octavia[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Magdalena[/name]
[name]Saskia[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name]
[name]Gwendolen[/name]

Must have done something wrong, I was going to edit my first post. So this is my “real” response.

Keep:

[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]

I love your children’s names! Very classic and sweet. I’ve deleted names I don’t think really go, and also repeating letters. I think it’s nice when all the siblings in a set have a different first letter, plus I think it eases confusion sometimes, unless of course there’s really a name you love and then exceptions are made. Here are the names I think you should keep, and they’re all so wonderful!

Keep:
[name]Matilda[/name] - I love this name. It’s simply elegant and pretty.
[name]Scarlett[/name] - Very nice, and I love the Gone With The Wind connection!
[name]Juliet[/name] - this name is perfect with your sibset. Classic, romantic and pretty.
[name]Lydia[/name] - Feminine and sweet.
[name]Victoria[/name] - sounds very regal with [name]Edward[/name].
[name]Philippa[/name] - another regal sounding name that goes really well with your set.
[name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgiana[/name] - both great options. [name]Georgia[/name] is sweet and spunky, [name]Georgiana[/name] is frilly and girly.
[name]Genevieve[/name] - On the more ornate/girly side, but goes well with your other kid’s names.

I’d say my favorites for you are [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]. [name]Hope[/name] that helps!

my favs

[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]

Siblings are [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name].

[name]Matilda[/name]-- really like! great w/ set
[name]Imogen[/name]-- like! the repeating I initials don’t bother me that much
[name]Pollyanna[/name]-- not crazy about this, it’s a little cutesy for my tastes
[name]Polly[/name]-- a little better, but still sounds a bit quaint to me
[name]Emmeline[/name]-- like!
[name]Eloise[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name]-- like!
[name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Stella[/name]-- to me these sound a little harsh in your set, not the best style fit
[name]Evelyn[/name]-- kind of like, especially with the nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Amelia[/name]-- really like these, good with your set
[name]Sophie[/name]-- like
[name]Victoria[/name]-- sounds a little stuffy to me
[name]Philippa[/name]-- really like! great w/ your set
[name]Georgia[/name]-- not my favorite
[name]Georgiana[/name]-- prefer this to [name]Georgia[/name], still not my fave
[name]Genevieve[/name]-- really like!

The ones I would keep are:

[name]Matilda[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name]-- I think these best match the fun, upbeat feel of [name]Adelaide[/name]

[name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Juliet[/name]-- these fit well with your whole set: elegant but not too formal or stuffy

[name]Eloise[/name], [name]Georgiana[/name], [name]Philippa[/name]-- these sound the most formal to me; they fit well with [name]Edward[/name] but might sound a bit ‘grand’ with the others. Pretty, though. Fun nns like [name]Ellie[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]Pippa[/name] help me picture these with [name]Adelaide[/name] a little more.

[name]Evelyn[/name]-- this one stands out as a more vintage/old lady name (not in a bad way)

My favorites overall and with your set are [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name]. My only concern is whether [name]Matilda[/name] would be seen as a celeb baby name? I’m not sure if it would or not. I think any of these three would be lovely and fit perfectly with her sibs. You have lots of great options in your list though! Good luck

Thanks! We have deleted some of those names from the list though.

Siblings are [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name]

[name]Matilda[/name]- Fabulous name, I can see her with the others. [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]- I think you should keep it for a mn, it works well with the boys names, but clashes with her sister
[name]Pollyanna[/name]- If you love [name]Pollyanna[/name] more than [name]Polly[/name] use this one, and [name]Polly[/name] as a nn. If the [name]Anna[/name] is extrenuous remove it and go with your gut.
[name]Polly[/name]-see above
[name]Emmeline[/name]- Would be absolutaly perfect! [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Pollyanna[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]- would be effortless! [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]- A great mn choice, but does not compliment sib-set as a fn
[name]Evelyn[/name]- Run. You already have [name]Edward[/name], which is only on it’s way back to young and hot, don’t push it in my opinion.
[name]Juliet[/name]- I think the name is great, but because it has such familiar beginings (R+J) the public factor makes this one stand out like a sore thumb against the others. (Yes, I know [name]Edward[/name]- Twilight, [name]Isaac[/name]- The Bible, but there is something more with [name]Juliet[/name]) I think it could be a mn.
[name]Lydia[/name]- I personally really really dislike [name]Lydia[/name], so don’t discard it, I just have an opinion
[name]Amelia[/name]- I think [name]Amelia[/name] would be so incredible next to [name]Adelaide[/name]! They both have a cultured, sophisticated and incredibly sweet air. [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]- too popular a name next to the others, I feel it may even be too obvious as a mn.
[name]Victoria[/name]- I love [name]Victoria[/name] in this sib-set, unlike [name]Amelia[/name] the name does not mirror [name]Adelaide[/name], but gives a distinction between the two that does not over power or fade out. [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]- I think [name]Stella[/name] and her brothers would be smashing, but along with [name]Adelaide[/name] it clashes, perhaps a good mn!
[name]Philippa[/name]- Origionally a male name, it simply does not work alongside [name]Adelaide[/name], or even [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name], which are not overtly masculine names, Kudos for you on that, I like boys names of this fashion.
[name]Eleanor[/name]- Wonderful! I love it as both a fn or mn
[name]Georgia[/name]- I think this has possibilities- [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Stella[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name]- I think as a fn, this name would over power all the others.
[name]Genevieve[/name]- Such a good choice! [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]

My favourite combos- [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]

I would name your daughter, [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] (runner up [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Juliet[/name])

[name]Matilda[/name]- keep goes well w sibs
[name]Imogen[/name]- keep ditto
[name]Pollyanna[/name]- delete not sophisticated enough
[name]Polly[/name]- delete to nicknamey
[name]Emmeline[/name]- delete too trendy with the Emm sound
[name]Eloise[/name]-keep
[name]Scarlett[/name]- delete not in same style as sibs
[name]Evelyn[/name]- delete nn [name]EVIE[/name] is so popular
[name]Juliet[/name]- keep [name]Juliette[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]- delete love the name but not in same style as sibs
[name]Amelia[/name]- delete too trendy
[name]Sophie[/name]- DELETE
[name]Victoria[/name]- Delete although a classic it does feel dated to me
[name]Stella[/name]- delete trendy
[name]Philippa[/name]- Keep perfect pippa [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]- DElete doesnt sound fresh enough
[name]Georgia[/name]-keep
[name]Georgiana[/name]- keep
[name]Genevieve[/name]-keep

Thanks everyone! All of you have really helped us!

The names we have removed from the list so far is: [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Stella[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]

But I am still trying to convince my husband to [name]Charlotte[/name] if we are having a girl!

[name]Matilda[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it. [name]Tilly[/name] is adorable.

[name]Imogen[/name] - Never been my style.

[name]Pollyanna[/name] - I don’t think this name will age well.

[name]Polly[/name] - I think it may be coming back in style.

[name]Evelyn[/name] - Pretty.

[name]Amelia[/name] - Very popular now I believe. Never been one of my favorites.

[name]Sophie[/name] - Too popular.

[name]Philippa[/name] - [name]Pippa[/name] is a cute nn.

[name]Eleanor[/name] - nice.

[name]Georgia[/name] - Great name.

[name]Georgiana[/name] - Too frilly imo. Much prefer [name]Georgia[/name].

[name]Genevieve[/name] - Too frilly for my tastes, but a nice name.

Oh [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] would be beautiful!

Yes, is would! My favorite combo is by far [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rosamund[/name] but hubby are saying no. [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] is really cute!

( – And oh, thank you [name]Fay[/name] for your response! )
