A good friend of mine has a [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. He has only gone by [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] (he is 12). I prefer [name_m]Kellen[/name_m] or [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. All are very handsome.

[name_u]Kieran[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is fabulous

I prefer [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] or [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]…

I love [name_m]Kellen[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]! [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] would be my 2nd choice.

This was tough! All your choices were great. I did vote for [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u], I have always had a soft spot for that name and it is currently in my list of favorites for a boy.

I love [name_m]Kellen[/name_m]! My next pick would be [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], but just like you I really dislike the NN [name_u]Pat[/name_u].

1 [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]
2 [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]

The other two names don’t appeal to me. If it was [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m], I might change my mind!

I voted for the (apparently less popular) [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. It’s not a Gaelic name or an Anglicization of a Gaelic name like your other choices, but still has an identifiable Irish history. The bonus for me is that there’s sort of an Irish Boy Name Trend going on, and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] floats above that for me. You could skip the [name_u]Pat[/name_u] thing by going for [name_m]Padraig[/name_m] or [name_m]Padraic[/name_m], but that might be ripe for mispronunciations unless you live in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]! FWIW, my cousin [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] mostly goes by [name_m]Patrick[/name_m].

I still do like [name_u]Kieran[/name_u], though I prefer [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m] - and I really, really like [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. As in, my cursor hovered between [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] before I made my pick.

I love both [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]!

[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] is great, but it is hard to avoid the [name_u]Pat[/name_u] thing (also, a friend of mine is [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] … his last name begins with an “S”, so his initials are PMS. Doubt your LN begins with an S, but consider that if it does! He still gets called PMS and is well into his 30s)

Hubs and I would likely be using [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] for our son if it went well with our last name

I think [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] flow best. It’s lovely!

I picked [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] : ) [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] would have been first, but as with you, there is hardly a boy name I dislike more then [name_u]Pat[/name_u]. And there could be the possibility of someone calling him that and (oh horror!) it sticking : ) [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] seems like it will pass to the girls side very soon, like some other unfortunate boy’s names (who expected [name_m]Grayson[/name_m]? not to mention poor [name_u]Avery[/name_u]), but I do like it plenty more when it’s spelled [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m]. And the others are just bleh to me, because I see them a lot around here.

They’re all awesome, totally up my alley. I voted for [name_u]Kieran[/name_u], but the truth is that i really love [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], and it comes across as more solid and less trendy than the other choices (even though i know they’re all the real thing). I don’t think you’d have that hard a time avoiding [name_u]Pat[/name_u]. I read a book where a character named [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] was nicknamed Patch, which i thought was cute.

I vote for [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], my favorite nn for it is [name_u]Pax[/name_u]. Good luck!

I voted [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]! What a handsome name. I also detest [name_u]Pat[/name_u]. I also really love [name_u]Kieran[/name_u].

I voted for [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] - a handsome classic! I know two Patricks that are under the age of 16, and they do not go by [name_u]Pat[/name_u].
My second choice is [name_m]Kellen[/name_m].

There are so few boys names that I like. So, I think it would be easier to name a boy. You have some good ones picked out.
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] is a good name. Who would call a [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_u]Pat[/name_u] these days?
My mother named my brother [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and she hates [name_m]Dan[/name_m] or [name_u]Danny[/name_u]. Nobody called him anything but [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] til high school…a few of his friends call him [name_m]Dan[/name_m].
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is very serious sounding though. I really like the combo of [name_m]Kellen[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] best. It has the best flow. That or [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. The trouble with [name_m]Kellen[/name_m] and [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] is that they sound a bit feminine. They are great names though. I know a baby [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. I hate when people think it would be a good name for a girl - [name_f]Locklyn[/name_f]. ugh
HTH

I love [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]! [name_m]Kellen[/name_m] is ok, but I actually know a girl named [name_m]Kellen[/name_m]! [name_m]Keiran[/name_m] also sounds a little girly because of all the trendy [name_f]Keira[/name_f], Keirlyn, and Keiryn names for girls. [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is nice, but I never know how to pronounce it. I have heard both Lach and Lack sounds. I have also heard a guttural -ch sound. For Irish boys names, I also love [name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]!

Thanks all! Your input has been helpful.

I’m worried about picking a name that sounds too feminine, and knew a little girl named [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] growing up, so that is my only hang-up there. I also fear picking something that will sound painfully dated in 25 years (my name is [name_f]Amber[/name_f] & my mn is [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]…talk about 80s fab ).

I feel like there is way more pressure when naming a boy! Naming our daughter was a cakewalk in comparison.
