Ok, I know Kevin doesn’t always get love, but I have a soft spot for it, and I’m wondering if it’s worth considering.
Here’s what I love about Kevin:
a) One of my favourite movies is St. Elmo’s Fire, and my favourite character in the movie is named Kevin - he’s super cynical but very romantic and sweet, I love his character’s storyline (and I love Andrew McCarthy, the actor who plays him). Also - who doesn’t love Home Alone? It’s one of my favourite movies from my childhood and I always thought Kevin McAllister was super cool. Kevin Costner is also a pretty cool namesake, as well as Kevin Bacon (big fan of him too).
b) It’s an Anglicization of an Irish name (Caoimhín - don’t quote me on this but this is what my research came up with?) and it means “handsome”, which a) honours S/O’s rich Irish heritage and b) ties in with my name as my middle name is a form of Alan, and from what I can find, Alan also means “handsome”.
c) It’s familiar and well-known, having ranked in the USA top 1000 since 1921, and was a top 100 name from 1949 - 2016, peaking in the early 1960s. It still sits within the USA top 200 as of 2019, so it’s in that same perfect popularity sweet spot as a lot of my girls list (ie; Stephanie, Jessica, etc).
d) It sounds great with surname, and has the short, masculine, punchy sound that I really like - it feels very well-rounded, “All-American” (ironic because I’m Canadian but you get the idea) to me.
My biggest concern is that I know Kevin gets some flack on the internet for being dated and “boring” or “lame” and that it’s “tr@shy” (which I loathe but besides the point), and that there’s a few less than savory famous Kevins (Sp@cey and Federline).
What do you think, should I consider Kevin? Is he really all that bad, or worth a second look?
Thanks!
