Kian vs Arjun

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys,
We are expecting our first kid this summer, it’s a boy and we like two names so far- [name_m]Arjun[/name_m] and [name_m]Kian[/name_m]. I’m of [name_f]Indian[/name_f] origin, living in the states. I don’t want a very traditional [name_f]Indian[/name_f] name as most of the names are difficult to pronounce. My last name is Kamat. I wanted to check with everyone which name they like more [name_m]Arjun[/name_m] Kamat or [name_m]Kian[/name_m] Kamat. We like [name_m]Arjun[/name_m] a lot but it’s a very popular [name_f]Indian[/name_f] name, [name_m]Kian[/name_m] is not [name_f]Indian[/name_f] and not popular and we like it too.Highly appreciate your honest opinion. Thanks!

I really love [name_m]Kian[/name_m]! Mostly just becasue I enjoy similar sounds, and [name_m]Kian[/name_m] Kamat just sounds so great. Also [name_m]Kian[/name_m] can lead to a pretty sweet nickname like [name_f]Ki[/name_f]! Congrats!

I prefer [name_m]Arjun[/name_m]. [name_m]Kian[/name_m]'s pronunciation is too ambiguous.

I prefer [name_m]Kian[/name_m], although I prefer the [name_m]Cian[/name_m] spelling.

I prefer [name_m]Kian[/name_m].

Thanks everyone. This is very helpful.

Thank you

[name_m]Kian[/name_m] all the way!

  • love the name in itself, sounds great and totally modern but not trendy, easy to pronounce in both [name_f]India[/name_f] and the US, and I’ve never heard it before!
  • Esp with the last name Kamat, it’s awesome. [name_m]Kian[/name_m] Kamat sounds like a famous name!

Congrats!!

I prefer [name_m]Arjun[/name_m]. The way [name_m]Arjun[/name_m] Kamat sounds is much more distinct that [name_m]Kian[/name_m] Kamat.

I agree. Plus, [name_m]Arjun[/name_m] is a cool name.
And when I look at [name_m]Kian[/name_m] it is not clear how to pronounce it. kee-[name_f]ANN[/name_f]?

[name_m]Kian[/name_m] happens to be a favorite of mine. However I think [name_m]Arjun[/name_m] Kamat flows a bit better.

Thanks a lot everyone. Yes, the pronunciation for [name_m]Kian[/name_m] might be little confusing for some. We like Kee-yuhn, not [name_u]Kye[/name_u]-yuhn or kee-aan.
[name_m]Arjun[/name_m] is a very cool [name_f]Indian[/name_f] name and easy to pronounce in US too, but it’s very common whereas [name_m]Kian[/name_m] is not common which makes it cool.
Looks like people like both names with more number of votes for [name_m]Kian[/name_m], will discuss with my wife and hopefully we will select the final name soon. Thanks again everyone
