Kind of a Rant, but Also Advice

Okay. Taking a deep breath here before I go on my tirade.

I’m writing a story. It’s an okay story. I like the characters, decent plot, I’m chill with it. That’s not the problem.

The problem is that I have two roads to take, and it’s really difficult for me to pick one.

I used to write five to six page chapters. Then, I decided my writing was crap and took a break. Now, I can barely manage three pages, and I really want to built back up.

My story right now is all three page chapters. I like the extra characterization I added, but all my descriptions feel stilted, short, and fake. I want more content, and I want the story to feel a lot less forced.

I could retype it (I’ve rewritten this story at least twenty times in the past two years) but I’m worried I’ll lose my mojo like I did last time. I’d feel a little better about just redoing it, even though I’ve got ten chapters by now.

I’m not looking to change the prompt. [name_m]Just[/name_m] maybe retype it, because the style of writing(?) is really killing me.

Honestly, I don’t know what to do. [name_m]Just[/name_m] kind of sitting around and wishing that I had kept my mediocre six-page pieces so that I’d have a bit more momentum, and a will to write better.

IDK. Any advice?

I think I must be misunderstanding the question because my honest answer would be to just not limit your chapter length and let the scenes finish on their own.

I’ve run into this problem a lot too, especially if I’m just starting a story.

You can retype it, but don’t completely scrap the one you’ve already written, because you can take the things you like from the old one to put into the new one.

And like @SparkleNinja18 said, don’t limit your chapters, just let them finish on their own, it may result in some chapters being shorter/longer than others but it will make the story flow better.

I highly recommend writing first and separating the story into chapters later. Usually, I’ll write about three chapters worth of content, and then separate them. I’m not sure if this would work for other people, but it has helped me a lot!
