Working on names for baby #3… we don’t know gender.
I love the name [name]Max[/name], and always have. We used it for our (male) family dog, who has since passed away, and now I’m wondering if I could use the name, but for a girl. I like the modern feeling of a boy’s name for a girl (i.e., our daughter’s name is [name]Chase[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]).
[name]Will[/name] everyone immediately think of [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name]'s daughter if I use [name]Maxwell[/name]? Is it bad form to use a name that was once used for a pet?
Other possible girls names that I’m considering:
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Fallon[/name]
[name]Channing[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
I think the [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] association is too strong, and plus I wouldn’t name after a family pet, even one that’s passed on. All it takes is for an older relative to bring it up, or for little [name]Maxwell[/name] to see a photo of dog [name]Max[/name] and ask about the name and wonder why they’ve got the same name. I think once you’ve used a name on a pet, you can’t use it on a human.
Out of your list, I think [name]Chase[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] pair up nicely.
Yes everyone will immediately think of [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name]'s daughter, and to be perfectly blunt, [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] is not someone I’d want anyone to think I copied!
I was also going to say that you can’t use [name]Maxwell[/name] for about 10 years. It reminds me of [name]Emerson[/name]. [name]Teri[/name] Hatcher used it 14 years ago, and there were only 20 Emersons that year. All I remember is hearing how unusual it was (at the beginning of the boys names for girls trend). No way I would have touched it back then. Now every other girl is named [name]Emerson[/name], I doubt many even remember who started the trend.
Yes, everyone will think of [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name], for sure. [name]Max[/name]/[name]Maxi[/name] is a cute nickname for a girl but [name]Maxwell[/name] is [name]Jessica[/name]'s name at the moment.
I think that everyone with think of [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] right now.
If you want to use [name]Max[/name], you could do something like [name]Maxine[/name]. Or use the initials “M.X.” for the combo…[name]Mackenna[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Maren[/name] Xara, [name]Mallory[/name] [name]Xia[/name], or [name]Marlowe[/name] Xava.
From your list, I like [name]Channing[/name] the best.
I think of 2 Broke Girls first and then [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name].
However, I wouldn’t use a name I used on a pet, that’s just kind of creepy in my opinion. If the child finds out, it’ll be like “you named me after a dog!”
There was a berry who posted about hating having the same name as her mothers cat a few weeks ago. (Sorry I don’t remember who it was). I think she was asking about renaming herself. While I understand loving the name [name]Max[/name] I’d be very careful when considering giving your child the name you had for a beloved family pet. The [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] thing would bother me less. When your daughter is 10 I doubt people will remember it so strongly (also I’m fairly certain that 95% of my friends wouldn’t make that association).
[name]Maxine[/name] is really cute and probably due for a comeback! I am considering using it as a middle name if we ever have another daughter; my brother is a [name]Maxwell[/name].
I like the suggestion of [name]Maxine[/name]. The former pet association doesn’t bother me too much, it would bother me if the pet was still around which in your case it isn’t. Family members may think it odd at first, but they would probably forget it after a little while. She would make the name her own, instead of it being a former family pet name.
Of course, I don’t know if [name]Maxine[/name] has the same style as [name]Chase[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]. [name]One[/name] is a obvious retro girls name and the other is a boys name on a girl. I posted a thread about sibsets and saw a lot of people mentioning cohesiveness with sibling names. [name]Chase[/name] and [name]Maxine[/name] may not have that cohesiveness. Of course, it matters more if you like the names. Sibsets are not very important in the long run.
From your list I like [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name]. I am not much into using boys names for girls, but those two are nice on girls imo.
[name]Maxine[/name] would be much better. I had a guy friend named [name]Maxwell[/name] growing up, and it is one of my favorite boy names. (I love [name]Chase[/name] on a girl, but I doubt I’d ever use it, btw.)
Suggestions:
[name]Jordan[/name] ([name]Love[/name] this on a girl)
[name]Reagan[/name] ([name]Rea[/name] is a cute nickname)
[name]Cameron[/name]/[name]Camryn[/name]
[name]Jesse[/name]
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Luca[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
I think those are my favorites. From yours, love [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Fallon[/name], but [name]Fallen[/name] jokes will abound, but I dislike the others.
As for the pet association, if the pet is no longer around, I don’t think it’s such a big issue. I’m considering the name [name]Noah[/name] and once had a cat with that name.
I really like [name]Alex[/name] for a girl. Not [name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Alexis[/name], or [name]Alexandria[/name]. [name]Just[/name] [name]Alex[/name].
I think [name]Henry[/name] would sound really cute on a girl with the right nickname but it may be too out there.
[name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Drew[/name] are probably my favorite crossovers.
I am not too fond of [name]Maxwell[/name] but you could use [name]Maxine[/name] or just [name]Max[/name]. I don’t think of the [name]Simpson[/name] baby but I do not really watch TV or follow celebrity life. I like your style! Although some of the berries on here get a little grumpy and uptight about boys names crossing over to the girl’s side, so be careful.
[name]Maxwell[/name] if awful - I cannot imagine trying to go by [name]Max[/name] / [name]Maxi[/name] as a teen girl, that’s embarrassing! As if being a pre-teen isn’t hard enough. I honestly do not like any name on your list - why not give her something clearly feminine with a boyish nickname? That way she at least has the option of being feminine if she wants to. [name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Maxine[/name] - [name]Max[/name], [name]Judith[/name] - [name]Jude[/name], [name]Georgia[/name] / [name]Georgina[/name] - [name]George[/name]…
