Hey guys so with the help of you all my partner and I were set on [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. Recently someone close to us who heard the choices said that both names sound like the Latin name for purple teddy bears lol. I thought that was really hilarious but now every time I read the name I get like a mental picture of a purple beanie baby bear in its store box. I had synesthesia(*) growing up that has kind of faded with age so maybe that’s why names (written especially) evoke such strong mental pictures. Anyway has anyone gotten a bad or just strange connotation to a name they loved? If so how did you all shake it or change it. I guess it’s not a bad association but it’s just not what I want. Before the purple teddy bear thing the name was like, idk its hard to explain, like a cozy library on a rainy day w a fireplace, purpley-maroon velvet arm chairs and leather books.
*(letters and numbers have personalities, colors, images)
For me, when searching for a name for my little girl I realized I found the right name when any random negative comments just rolled off me easily. I loved the name enough to not care. Some connotations are fine, like for my daughter [name_f]Nova[/name_f] the internet comments brought up the car “[name_m]Chevy[/name_m] [name_f]Nova[/name_f]” and the urban legend of how No Va means “no go” in Spanish so those who speak Spanish will be confused by the name, which is just dumb to assume. It’s like thinking English speakers would confuse the word notable with “no table”. But, regardless, I loved the name. I still do. So…I guess if a name is easily ruined by those kinds of comments then it’s not the right name. However, I think it would be adorable to lean into that image and, if you have a baby girl, buy her a purple teddy bear when she’s born.
I don’t see how it describes a purple teddy bear. What about [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Audra[/name_f]? Those seem to evoke the imagery you’re looking for.
