Got an e-mail from our adoption agency…they’re calling next week. I can only assume good news is on the way; but now that we will probably be SEEING our baby’s face soon, I’m suddenly (NO idea why) freaking out about the name. To make matters worse, they have told us all along it [name]WILL[/name] be a boy…now there’s a chance it could be a girl (more freak-out).
Anyway, only name DH LOVES is [name]Desmond[/name] (already posted about [name]Desmond[/name] vs. [name]Colm[/name]). I decided, “Well, we’ll just stick with [name]Desmond[/name]/[name]Des[/name].” But now, suddenly, all the names we had on our short list seem more “fun”, more unique, and more inetresting. Ugh! I guess I just want either reassurance that I made the right decision or some guidance about other names I can take to DH so we can pick a new name (ugh, this task seems so daunting!).
Here are some of the names that we went through before narrowing down to [name]Des[/name] and [name]Colm[/name]:
[name]Viggo[/name]
[name]Django[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]/[name]Finnegan[/name] (decided this was waaay too popular then DH’s jerk cousin named his FIFTH baby this - argh! I’m not bitter…)
[name]Seamus[/name]
[name]Joaquin[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Rocket[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]/[name]Rhett[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Remy[/name]
Gatsby
[name]Gray[/name]
[name]Hyde[/name]
[name]Bastian[/name]
Am I just losing my mind, because it’s FINALLY, after all these years, so close? Does every new parent go through this with naming their wee ones? Thanks in advance for all your advice/help/suggestions!
I like [name]Desmond[/name] and [name]Milo[/name] the best, by far!
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] are great too.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Desmond[/name]! Why not pick two or three that you and your husband love and then decide when you meet your little guy, see which one fits him.
Best of luck in the very exciting time!
I love [name]Milo[/name]! <3 And Seamus
But Desmond is a cute choice, much better than Colm.
[name]How[/name] exciting!!! I like [name]Desmond[/name] better than [name]Colm[/name]. I really like [name]Hugo[/name] too and of course I love [name]Everett[/name]. [name]How[/name] long between seeing picture and adopting him do you have? [name]Do[/name] you meet him before taking him home? Maybe his looks/personality will help you decide too.
There is something to be said for using a name that you have been thinking about for a while. It shows that you have liked it for some time, even if you are not always 100% sure- time is a test in my opinion.
Also I remember after naming my daughter ([name]Iris[/name]) I second guessed our choice for a few months- but since then she has totally grown into her name and now I see that it’s perfect for her and can’t imagine her being anything else. You might also want to wait until you see your baby to make the final call.
That being said…I also like [name]Lachlan[/name]! My grandmother told me that the was the boy name she had chosen for one of my Aunts and even since then I have loved it. It is classic but also not too popular. I would use it if it weren’t taken by close friends.
I like [name]Desmond[/name] and think you should use it, especially since that is one of the names you have been set on. I wouldn’t rethink your choice. It is a nice name that a child can grow up with.
From your list I would use these:
[name]Viggo[/name]- This is nice. Can be a good first or middle name.
[name]Seamus[/name]- Nice name. I think of [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], but the associations will probably go down within the next decade.
[name]Hugo[/name]- Cool name.
[name]Everett[/name]/[name]Rhett[/name]- I usually don’t like this name as much, but it is cute and I would prefer this name over a lot of other trendy names right now.
[name]Milo[/name]- Has a cute sound.
I would recommend not using [name]Hyde[/name], [name]Gray[/name] or [name]Gatsby[/name]. Those just seem more trendy and will not age as well. I understand the appeal for them, but I can’t get my mind around using [name]Hyde[/name] as a first name. It is a lovely surname, but doesn’t sound good as a first name imo.
Hopefully that wasn’t harsh. Good luck and congratulations!
I love [name]Hugo[/name]!
I’m newly in love with [name]Hugo[/name]. But [name]Desmond[/name] is nice too!
Thanks everyone! I think I’m just freaking out - our phone call is tomorrow…so nervous. I’m hoping maybe we will just see the baby’s face and the name will just come easily. ;).
I really love [name]Desmond[/name]. It’s just so dashing! Good luck tomorrow
I like [name]Hugo[/name]!
