What do you think of the name [name]Kingsley[/name] for a girl?
Obviously it’s masculine but what if you paired it with a really feminine middle name?
I’ve seen some negative opinions on other sites but nothing on nameberry. Lots of people have suggested [name]Kinsley[/name] or [name]Kinsey[/name] instead but I’m not crazy about either of those.
I really really don’t like this on a girl. It is an uber masculine name with an uber masculine nn.
[name]IMO[/name] this would be the same as naming a little girl [name]Edward[/name], [name]Conrad[/name] or [name]David[/name], names that are very masculine and don’t do service to a little girl.
[name]Kingsley[/name] was the name of my house in [name]England[/name]. I just can’t think of it as a name for a person! To me, anything with [name]King[/name], perhaps with the exception of [name]Kingston[/name] because that’s rather studly, is strange. Same with [name]Rex[/name]. Or [name]Queen[/name]. Anything with these royal titles - oh, let’s add [name]Duke[/name] in there, too! - feels more appropriate for a pet than a child. [name]Do[/name] you see what I’m saying? I understand that [name]Kingsley[/name] is different, and it has that trendy -ley ending that makes it feminine and such, but it just isn’t doing it for me.
You don’t like [name]Kinsley[/name] or [name]Kinsey[/name]? Okay. Hm. Is it the [name]King[/name] that’s attracting you to the name? If so, I can’t suggest anymore alternatives, because the one I’d go to, [name]Kingston[/name], is definitely all boy. If it’s the -ley ending that you like, and the fun and trendy surname feel, perhaps you’d go for [name]Ainsley[/name], [name]Farley[/name], [name]Finley[/name], [name]Hadley[/name], [name]Langley[/name], [name]Marley[/name], [name]Paisley[/name], [name]Paley[/name], [name]Presley[/name], [name]Riley[/name], or [name]Wiley[/name]. Unless your child would be very tan, I think [name]Paley[/name] is an original and interesting choice!
I very strongly dislike it. I love it for a boy, but I feel like people think that any two syllable name that ends in ley, lie, lee, or leigh automatically makes a fantastic girl name and I just don’t agree. There’s [name]Riley[/name], [name]Kylie[/name], [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Kaylee[/name], [name]Hailey[/name], [name]Harley[/name], [name]Carly[/name], [name]Marley[/name], [name]Miley[/name], [name]Hadley[/name], [name]Presley[/name], [name]Paisley[/name], etc. There’s just so many and they all blend into a trendy blob of names and none are really original, creative, or even pretty, in my opinion.
To be honest, I personally don’t love unisex names, but I don’t mind [name]Kingsley[/name]. I don’t like the idea of “[name]King[/name]” in a girl’s name though. I think you might like [name]Kerrigan[/name]! Besides that here are some other ideas…
This. I don’t see how a name with ‘[name]King[/name]’ in it could be considered feminine, just as I don’t understand the -son trend for girls. [name]Madison[/name] and [name]Addison[/name] are still strictly male for me too.
It’s not a name I’m in love with or am totally considering. A friend suggested it to me and it made me go … hmmm … I didn’t see anything about the name on this site so I thought I’d throw it out there
My husband and I are having such a hard time choosing a name for our baby girl ( coming this [name]June[/name]! ) We’ve been all over the place and everything we come up with is either too popular, reminding me of someone else’s name etc etc … * breathe *
Our 4 year old son’s name is [name]London[/name] so we want something that’s fairly unique. I think I’m actually leaning towards something that’s
feminine, pretty and unique but nothing is coming to us as " the one "
Some of the names I like but don’t love are :
[name]Monet[/name] - this is the only one we both like but don’t love. Not really looking forward to the " [name]Monet[/name] the painter " association though. I actually just think it’s a pretty name and am not a fan of [name]Monet[/name]'s work so it could get awkward. Then again, I faced enough of that naming my son [name]London[/name]
I’d love to use either [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Faye[/name] for a middle name ( after my Gramma’s ) or [name]Everley[/name] after my Mom ( [name]Beverley[/name] )
Alright, with a son named [name]London[/name], I think you’re going to need to go feminine for this baby’s name, okay? As for [name]Monet[/name], I’m all for historical surnames and even word names for you, but if you don’t really love [name]Monet[/name], that’s a bit odd. In my personal opinion, I mean…
When you’re looking for girlish names, you don’t have to look too far off the beaten path for something truly unique and original. Take [name]Fiona[/name], for example, which I think would be perfect for you - she’s in the 300s on the SSA chart, which isn’t overwhelmingly popular but isn’t unheard of, yet she’s moved only about 350 places in the last ten years. That’s nothing remarkable. [name]Ella[/name] names are definitely stylish, but choosing a quirkier one - think [name]Arabella[/name] or [name]Mirabelle[/name] - definitely sets your daughter apart from everyone else. Or, go for those romantic Shakespearean names - think [name]Ophelia[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] - that don’t get heard of as much as, say, [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name].
[name]Hope[/name] this helps!
[name]Lemon[/name]
PS [name]Love[/name] [name]Faye[/name] as a middle name for you!
Actually, I know a girl named [name]Matisse[/name], her parents were never fans of the artist before they named their daughter this and she isn’t really a fan of him either but she absolutely adores her name and gets complimented on it all the time… so if you really do like the name [name]Monet[/name], regardless of if you’re a fan or not, I think you should go for it
But I agree with lemon, you don’t have to go too far to find a unique feminine name, and with [name]London[/name] I would go for something that’s definitely feminine
Would you consider using [name]Everley[/name] as a first name? I think [name]Everley[/name] [name]Faye[/name] sounds pretty and feminine. I also like a pps suggestion of [name]Mirabelle[/name]. I think [name]Mirabelle[/name] [name]Faye[/name] is totally adorable
I don’t mind [name]Kingsley[/name] for a girl, but I think you have moved past it. I like [name]Marlowe[/name] and [name]Monroe[/name] from your list. I also like pp’s suggestion of using [name]Everley[/name] as a first name. Your mom would be thrilled!
I actually like [name]Kingsley[/name] on a girl. I realize it sounds trendy and everything, but I don’t think that name in particular will ever be too popular. I also like [name]Monet[/name], surprisingly, but I’m not sure if it is the best fit for you.
People would definitely associate it with the painter, and if I heard [name]London[/name] and [name]Monet[/name] together, I would think they were two girls with artsy, modern parents.
