Yes I have heard [name]Kingston[/name] used for a girl before. [name]Kingsley[/name] is cute but wouldn’t want them to mistake it for [name]Kinley[/name] or [name]Kinsley[/name]. What do you think? Be nice please. Some you can be brutal.
I’m not a fan of either – it’s just not my style – but I prefer [name]Kingston[/name]. Maybe because I’m more used to place names on girls, and [name]Kingsley[/name] sounds more like a man being called by his last name, if that makes sense.
Not a fan. [name]Both[/name] are masculine.
I know of b/g twins named [name]Kingsley[/name] and Kennsington. The boy is named [name]Kingsley[/name]. Obv. the title [name]King[/name] is male so I wouldn’t name a girl that.
I just can’t see either on them on a girl, honestly. [name]King[/name] is masculine, [name]Queen[/name] is feminine.
i am not usually a fan of these types of names (ainsley, ashton, these sound made up or surname-ish or like street names), but i used to pass a street called kingslie on my way to school and i always thought it would be cute as a girl name. i also like kinga. kingston just makes me think of jamaica and gwen stefani and i think the ending makes it more masculine.
also i think that using ‘king’ as the root of a girl name is what makes it so cute. like calling a girl sam or elliott. traditionally associated with males, but cute on an adorable little girl.
Thank you! [name]Kingslie[/name] is a cute spelling too! I thought of [name]Kingslee[/name] or Kingsleigh to feminize it a little more.
This is my opinion too. Masculine-sounding unisex names for girls just aren’t my style and these two sound even more masculine than most.
I think [name]Kingsley[/name] is cute and prefer it to [name]Kingston[/name] for a boy. Of all the spelling options mentioned my favorite would be [name]Kingslie[/name].
Personally, I think that [name]Kingsley[/name] is better for a girl, with the more feminine ending.
i like kingslie, kingsleigh or kingsley in that order. i don’t like the look of kingslee as much. the good thing about kingsleigh is that a teacher reading a roster (or someone reading over her resume someday!) would know for sure that it’s a girl. i really hope you use this name!!
I agree, cute on an adorable little girl. But I get the feeling that it remains cutesy, even when she’s a grown woman, and I’m not so fond of that.
If you’re going to do this I’d recommend [name]Kingston[/name]. I agree, place names on girls are very familiar. And there’s more. Besides your concerns about [name]Kingsley[/name] sounding like [name]Kinsley[/name], [name]Kinley[/name] et al, [name]Kingsley[/name] sounds too much like kingly. If you use [name]Kingsley[/name] I’d advise spelling it that way. That’s the spelling people will most guess and remember easiest. [name]Kingslie[/name] looks like a sentence, kings lie. [name]Kingslee[/name] is OK but looks misspelled. [name]Kingslea[/name] is OK but will get Kingsleah sometimes. Kingsleigh will get Kingslay (really unfortunate) sometimes and people will always write Kingsliegh.
I don’t care for either on a girl. [name]King[/name] is such a natural nickname for this. You’re right, it could be cute on a little girl. I just think, what if she ends up on the tomboyish side? If she’s confident, it won’t matter if she gets teased by king, but if she’s both a tomboy and insecure, this could be rough. Drag king is a real title. I wouldn’t advise naming a boy Queensley or Queenston, and while I understand that the double standard about these things is a reality, I don’t think that a child’s name is the place to fight it, or really even call attention to it.
I’m sorry, but I do not see how [name]King[/name] is a cute nickname for a girl. [name]Do[/name] you also think that [name]Queen[/name] would make a cute nickname for a boy? The “king” in [name]Kingston[/name] and [name]Kingsley[/name] explicitly implies that the bearer of the name is a male. Changing the spelling to [name]Kingslie[/name] or Kingsleigh does not make the name more feminine. It still sounds exactly the same.
I agree with this. [name]King[/name] is a male title. [name]Kingston[/name] and [name]Kingsley[/name] are boy names and are pretty trendy, seems like the name is a bit of a fad and will go out of fashion really quickly and on a girl it just seems really tacky. Reminds me of all of the [name]Kinley[/name], [name]Kaylee[/name], [name]Kylie[/name], Kenadeee names. If you absolutey must use [name]Kingston[/name] or [name]Kingsley[/name] on a girl I would pick [name]Kingsley[/name] as the ‘ston’ ending makes it even more masculine but please please dont invent your own spelling to try and make it look like a girl name, it will still sound like the same boy name anyway and look like it’s spelled wrong.
Please don’t use either! Can you imagine how she will be teased? It could be bad.
I’ve taught a few [name]Kingsley[/name]'s and all of them were boys. I didn’t even know it could be used for a girl. I also think [name]Kingston[/name] sounds a bit masculine as well. The name [name]Kenzie[/name] still comes to mind. The sound is somewhat similar, but a bit softer which will suit a girl better [name]IMO[/name].
Thanks for the opinions!
