I would pronounce that spelling as Kur-sten, and [name]Kiersten[/name] as [name]Keer[/name]-sten.
My brother’s girlfriend is [name]Kirsten[/name]. I say it [name]Keer[/name]-sten (I think I am saying it right) but some people in my family say it the other way. She says that pepole get it wrong all the time, it doesn’t seem to bother her. Maybe it depends on what country you are in or what part of the US?
I say [name]Keer[/name]-sten, and I think that’s the original prn. Kur-sten is the Americanized version.
i love this name! it’s one of the ones i loved when i was 12 and still love now in my 30s. always thought i’d spell it [name]Kiersten[/name] to make sure it was pronounced how i liked it (with the “ear” sound)
I agree, it is a very pretty name with tricky pronunciation! I can’t even decide which way I would say it; for me it’s a complete toss-up between Kur-sten and [name]Keer[/name]-sten. I know a [name]Kirsten[/name] whose parents are from [name]Ireland[/name] who will not answer to [name]Keer[/name]-sten, only Kur-sten. I can also imagine it being mistaken for [name]Kristen[/name] fairly often :\ The [name]Kiersten[/name] spelling would make pronunciation quite clear, though!
I’m a [name]Kirsten[/name]! I’m 20 and live in [name]Canada[/name]. I pronounce it Kur-sten. I rarely have anyone mispronounce it [name]Keer[/name]-sten but I get [name]Kristen[/name] ALL the time. It’s not that big a deal, but I do correct people. I also go by [name]Kirstie[/name].
I love the name, and love both pronunciations.
To me, [name]Kirsten[/name]=kurr-sten, and [name]Kiersten[/name]=keer-sten. I also think [name]Kiersten[/name] would be pronounced ‘[name]Kristen[/name]’ far less often than the spelling [name]Kirsten[/name] would. I hope you choose this name, I think it is fabulous!
I had a friend named [name]Kirstin[/name] when I was in grade school, I always thought it was pretty! She often got called [name]Kristin[/name], but she just corrected them and that was that. I prefer the spelling Kierstin or [name]Kiersten[/name] (b/c people would be less likely to say [name]Kristin[/name], and also b/c I think it’s prettier to look at). [name]Lovely[/name] choice!
[name]Kirsten[/name] is pronounced “keer-stin” and [name]Kerstin[/name] is pronounced “kur-stin”.
