I have never liked nickname names as full names, and indeed have spent far too much time than is really good for me thinking of nicknames for the longer names on my list. In fact, for me, it is just as much fun choosing the nickname as the name itself, a thought which I’m sure many other Berries out there share. However, (as you may have already guessed) recently I have fallen in love with [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. I’m not a fan of [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] or [name_m]Christian[/name_m] (although [name_m]Christian[/name_m] is growing on me) and I am completely stumped on what other boys names could be shortened to [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. Does anyone have any other ideas? Or do you think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is fine just as is? Thank you!
I dont like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a stand alone name but i love it as a nn for [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] .
I love this and it’s on my very short list for my baby due in the autumn. I personally don’t understand the need for a longer name. I love short names ( my son is [name_u]Finn[/name_u]) I think they’re bold and decisive!
I love this, and sometimes I’m called it as a nickname for my middle name. Because of that, I really prefer it on a girl. I think it can stand alone, but I think it takes the right middle name for it to work.
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] are my two favorite ways to get to [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on a boy. Although [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is on my girls’ list, so I’d probably never use either.
All I have to add is [name_m]Kitto[/name_m]. I have a bit of an aversion to nickname names, but [name_u]Kit[/name_u]'s not bad at all!
I quite like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on it’s own. I think it’s dashing and reminds me of [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. You’ve got good suggestions for full names already.
@bellerose - Wow, I would love to meet an [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] nicknamed [name_u]Kit[/name_u] - I never even thought of that, despite it actually being quite logical. Thank you!
@jolene92 - Aww, [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] sound perfect together - thank you very much, and good luck for the autumn - fingers crossed you go with [name_u]Kit[/name_u]!
@tay2thestars - Thank you - I’m working on middle names, but I can’t seem to settle on anything definite… Boys names are tricky, I’m finding at the moment
@ashthedreamer - [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] is another great suggestion - I obviously was just not being imaginative enough before… Two brains (especially [name_u]Berry[/name_u] ones) are always better than one, it seems Ooh, [name_u]Kit[/name_u] for a girl would be tempting too - I think if I ever had a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], I would go for [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nickname as well. Or perhaps [name_f]Cate[/name_f]. Anyway. Thank you!
@charlieandperry1 - I never usually am either, but [name_u]Kit[/name_u] seems to have slipped past the net… [name_m]Kitto[/name_m] is cool as well, although I would feel like I was saying ‘kiddo’ a lot of the time - I’m beginning to really like some Cornish name variations actually, and [name_m]Kitto[/name_m]'s Cornish charm is no exception. Thank you!
@jonothon - Thank you - that is where I heard it originally, I think, and I find his life absolutely fascinating. But still, I can’t quite bring myself around to [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]… Thanks again!
I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on its own. It’s short, quirky, and certainly strong enough to be a full name.
@southern.maple - Thank you so much - it definitely feels quirky to me too. Also, the names in your signature are so classic and refined - they are absolutely gorgeous (I particularly like [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - very dashing!) Thanks again.
Does anybody think it matters that [name_u]Kit[/name_u] rhymes with s**t? Would he be teased as a result?
The [name_u]Kit[/name_u] I knew wasn’t teased at all. That rhyme never crossed my mind.
I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on a boy (although lately I’m liking it more for girls, i think of spunky [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Keller[/name_m] from A League of Their Own).
I also hate the name [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], but for some reason, [name_m]Christian[/name_m] seems very useable.
I like the suggestion of [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], but i do think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] works as a standalone name.
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] is a cute nickname, My favorite way to [name_u]Kit[/name_u] would be [name_m]Beckett[/name_m]. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] reminds me of [name_u]Kit[/name_u] Harington, the actor shoe plays [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] of GOT, or [name_u]Kit[/name_u] from League of Their Own. Also the American Girl doll [name_u]Kit[/name_u] Kitteridge, or [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u].
I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. I prefer I as a nickname for a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] than just a full name. I do, however know a boy called [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and just [name_u]Kit[/name_u], nothing longer. The only think is he is extremely rude and bullies quite a few people at my school. Interesting, he has an older brother called [name_u]Sterling[/name_u], quick I think makes a nice sib-set with [name_u]Kit[/name_u].
I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u]! I wanted it for our boy but DH is unsure about it. He said he likes it and he’ll ‘think about it’ but I don’t think we’ll be having a son named [name_u]Kit[/name_u] any time soon!
If I was to use it, I would use it as a stand alone name but I like it as a nickname to [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]/[name_m]Beckett[/name_m] too!
@renrose - Thank you, that makes me feel better - it just suddenly crossed my mind (what does that say about my own maturity level?!) Thanks again.
@ameliawilliams - I like [name_m]Christian[/name_m] too, but I just think (as I am actually [name_m]Christian[/name_m]), it might be sort of strange. [name_m]Just[/name_m] for me, personally; I’m fine with other children called [name_m]Christian[/name_m] (and I would applaud their parents’ naming taste!), but it’s sort of more how I describe myself than a name… Sorry if that’s confusing, and thanks for the suggestions as well!
@vedettessoir - I hadn’t realised there were so many Kits! I’ll have to whip out Google and do some serious searching - thank you!
@cannebella - [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] are quite nice together actually - not my style, but very cool. Thank you!
@lucyyjames - Haha, well, good luck with convincing him - the "I’ll think about it"s are often worse than the straight-out "No way!"s, I always think… Thank you!
I know it’s a stretch, but I’ve always loved the idea of a boy named [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] with the nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u], which the playwright [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] was sometimes known as.
@augusta_lee - That is such an awesome idea! And that would be such a nice story behind the nickname as well. Thank you!
I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u]! I’d use it for a girl though. My ggmas middle name was Katerine, so I always thought [name_u]Kit[/name_u] would be a nice nn for that
@katie2786 - That’s sweet - I think it’s a lovely nickname for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/Katerine. Thank you!
