[name_m]Hi[/name_m] again! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I still haven’t decided on baby girls name. We are now considering two new names but are stuck with how to spell them to ensure the least amount of pronunciation confusion.
[name_f]Layna[/name_f]
husband doesn’t like the y so won’t use this spelling but this is the pronunciation we like (Lane-uh). I’d want to be able to use the nn [name_u]Lane[/name_u] or [name_u]Laney[/name_u].
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]
we like the pronunciation ‘Lee-uh” not “‘Lay-uh” is the spelling above the best option? Any others?
Which name do you prefer between the two? Middle name will probably be [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].
I absolutely LOVE and adore [name_f]Leah[/name_f]! Such a sweet and bubbly classic. Never get old and was never too common. I have never heard this name or spelling being mistaken for [name_f]Leia[/name_f] - ‘lay-uh’. [name_f]Leah[/name_f] is certainly the best spelling. The alternative [name_f]Lia[/name_f] I have heard mispronounced lots for ‘lie-uh’. I also feel it would be misspelt 99.9% of the time as it isnt a common spelling. IMO, [name_f]Lia[/name_f] spelling totally cheapens the name even though a legit spelling, but it looks like somebody is trying to be unique. I have never liked [name_f]Lia[/name_f] spelling.
[name_f]Layna[/name_f] is pretty, but I feel this spelling will date. As well as, [name_f]Alayna[/name_f], [name_f]Alaina[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Alena[/name_f] and [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] being too common I feel [name_f]Layna[/name_f] would be mistaken constantly for being one of those as it does sound a tad bit incomplete, though I dont hate it and think it is pretty. I would prefer it spelt [name_f]Lena[/name_f], but know it would be mispronounced regularly for ‘lee-na’.
I’d go [name_f]Laina[/name_f] if the Y is out, [name_f]Lana[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] could be said your way or alternate ways so would nix those.
I’ve only ever known [name_f]Leah[/name_f] as lee-uh so you’re pretty safe there. [name_f]Lia[/name_f] is another option. I’d avoid [name_f]Leia[/name_f] though as that could be said either way.
I prefer [name_f]Leah[/name_f] as a name, [name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is lovely.
I’d spell [name_f]Layna[/name_f] as [name_f]Laina[/name_f] if you don’t want the Y
[name_f]Leah[/name_f] I’d spell like this, i think the pronunciation would be what you’d like
