La-a

La-a: [name]How[/name] do you say it???

Most people think Lah-ah, but its actually pronounced:

La-a
La dash a

is this utterly ridiculous or weirdly wonderful???

I’m pretty sure this is just an urban myth. I think Snopes.com debunked it a while ago. I guess there’s the possibility that someone has actually used it since then, but I’m always wary when someone brings up some of those urban-legend names–[name]Le[/name]-a, Oranjello, Shithead, etc… Everyone claims to know someone who knows one, and I just can’t believe there are THAT many that really exist.

I do give you credit for not saying “the dash don’t be silent!!” though.

I have heard that it is said Luh-dash-uh but I personally think it is utterly ridiculous. I cannot see this on anything but a stripper.

Yeah, I heard this exact story in 2004. I go with Snopes. I would never say it’s absolutely impossible it’s happened, but I think most of the instances we’re hearing of about this are (racist) urban myths. (Racist depending on how it is told).

I smell troll post. Shoo, troll.

The Snopes piece sums it up nicely, but I also highly recommend reading [name]Laura[/name] Wattenberg’s analysis in her “Ledasha, legends and race” article: Pregnancy, Parenting, Lifestyle, Beauty: Tips & Advice | mom.com
