Hello, we have two boys named Lachlan and Finley and we are due to have another boy in May. I love the nickname Mac/Mack.
I like the name Macaulay, McCormick, or Cormac (it seems the meaning of this name has a negative vibe in the American version, some sites have the meaning “destroying son” or “impure son”, and that’s kind of why I’m nervous about this name)
Please let me know what you guys think and any other suggestions for Irish/Scottish boy names?
[name_f]Welcome[/name_f] to Nameberry and I love your boys names! Suggesting…
[name_m]Tulley[/name_m]
[name_u]Maguire[/name_u] (handsome on its own or [name_m]Mac[/name_m] could work as a nickname)
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_u]Davis[/name_u]
[name_m]Euan[/name_m]
[name_m]Tadhg[/name_m]
[name_u]Dempsey[/name_u]
[name_u]Malone[/name_u]
Congratulations! I love the names on your list, and just fyi I do live in the US and I’ve never heard anything bad about [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]! That said, if you’re looking for more, try:
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m]
[name_m]Padraig[/name_m] or [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Cillian[/name_m]
[name_u]Fionn[/name_u]
[name_m]Eoin[/name_m] or [name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Cathal[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Tiernan[/name_u]
I’m from a big Irish-American family, and I’ve heard all these in our circle. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps, and good luck!
I love [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] with [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and [name_u]Finley[/name_u] !!
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] , [name_m]Macklin[/name_m], [name_u]Macmillan[/name_u], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] and Macguire could work too ! I love the name [name_u]Mack[/name_u] !
Our son’s name is [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], and I’ve never heard that! The meaning I’ve always known is “charioteer.” We always get lots of positive remarks about his name. We may call him [name_m]Mac[/name_m] one day, but we pronounce it as COR-mick, so we’ll see.
I love [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] and it would go perfectly with [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] & [name_u]Finley[/name_u]! Hmm I’m not sure how accurate that negative meaning is TBH but it’s listed as “charioteer” here & I’ve also seen “cor / corb” could mean raven or wheel…
You might also be interested in [name_u]Callum[/name_u] (love this & friendly nn Cal) or [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] (meaning “Mack’s stream”, so I wonder if you could use nn [name_u]Mack[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Max[/name_u] for this!) Also, not Irish / Scottish but [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] came to mind & also the Welsh name [name_m]Macsen[/name_m], which I love as a way to get to nn [name_m]Mac[/name_m].
I absolutely love [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] even though I’m not in the US I have never heard negative connotations in relation to [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u] & [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] are gorgeous together.
You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] & [name_u]Finley[/name_u] are lovely! I like Mac(k) a lot for their brother. [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] or [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] are my favorites. [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] & [name_u]Maverick[/name_u] nn [name_u]Mack[/name_u] are also kind of cool.

Nolan-love it, but too close to [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]?
[name_u]Nolan[/name_u] is a great name, I don’t think it’s too close to [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. We call him [name_m]Lachie[/name_m] at the moment, so [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] would be the one that’s sounds too similar
