Lachlan, Oakley, Dashiell, Nolan, or ? One month to go!

[name]Baby[/name] is one month from joining our family, and DH and I haven’t found a name we fully agree on. We don’t know the baby’s gender, but I don’t want to be desperately flipping through the pages of a name book while I’m in the hospital! If baby is a girl, she will be named [name]Waverly[/name]. [name]Baby[/name] will be joining siblings [name]Jenica[/name] [name]Grace[/name] and Laeken [name]Andrew[/name]. Laeken is 18 months old, so baby will be very close in age to him.

DH and I both love the name [name]Lachlan[/name], but it is sooooo close to Laeken. It sounds too cutesy-matchy. (If you disagree, let me know!) We’ve considered just going with [name]Locke[/name] or [name]Loch[/name], but there’s still the similarity issue.

DH has [name]Nolan[/name] and [name]Dashiell[/name] at the top of his list. I’m so-so with [name]Nolan[/name] and uncertain about [name]Dashiell[/name]. I love the nickname [name]Dash[/name], but don’t know if I want to stick my son with the name for life.

My top pick is [name]Oakley[/name] [name]Zander[/name]. DH likes it, but doesn’t love it.

Thoughts on these and other recommendations?? DH and I both love nature names and since we both have very common names, tend to find more uncommon names for our kids. I’m also leaning toward a name that has a “k” sound in the middle as it goes with the other sibling names. I am definitely open to any suggestions though!

I like [name]Oakley[/name]

I’d look into a few of the Cool Names lists. The one called Unusual Names For Boys gives about a 100 uncommon names that could generate other ideas. [name]Oakley[/name] seems more a brand to me than a name. I do agree with you on [name]Lachlan[/name] being close to your other son’s name. You could also do a Super Search with names that contain “dash” to see if anything sticks.

I was going to come on a root for [name]Lochlan[/name], but upon reading your post [name]Lochlan[/name] is to definitly to similar to Laeken. I really like [name]Oakley[/name] as we’ll, and would love to meet a kid with this name one day. My husband wouldn’t agree on it for either a boy or girl.

I’m not sure if I’m just being close-minded and stubborn, but I am really having a hard time finding any names I like as much as [name]Oakley[/name]. If baby is a boy, maybe DH will take one look at him and decide he’s an [name]Oakley[/name] after all

I definitely like [name]Lachlan[/name] the best, but it’s a no-go for your family. [name]Oakley[/name] makes me think of sunglasses, but I like the idea of the nickname [name]Oak[/name]. What an unusual nature nickname! For full name, I like [name]Dashiell[/name], but the nickname [name]Dash[/name] seems overly sporty. I know a family of [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Champ[/name] and it’s a little overly saccharine. I tried to combine some of your names and got Oakland. Haha.

[name]Oakley[/name] [name]Zander[/name] is a strong name. The only immediate down-side to it is that it doesn’t have a nickname ([name]Oak[/name]… I don’t think you’ll call him that all the time) but that’s okay. Lots of names lack a common diminutive, mine included! It sort of makes a name feel more important.

[name]Early[/name] Congrats !!

What about [name]Zander[/name] as a first? Or if you like [name]Dash[/name] but don’t love [name]Dashiell[/name], maybe you’d like [name]Ignatius[/name] nn [name]Nash[/name] or [name]Cassius[/name]/[name]Cassian[/name]/[name]Cashel[/name] nn [name]Cash[/name]?

I like [name]Oakley[/name] the most. I was just wondering how you would pronounce [name]Loch[/name]? As I am Scottish and we call Lakes Lochs and may people don’t/can’t pronounce it properly.

I actually <3 Oak as a nickname! Lack of a nickname is my biggest hangup with Nolan, one of DH’s names. Noel maybe? That reminds me too much of Noelle though.

I would pronounce [name]Loch[/name] as “lock”, which is probably Americanized. What is the proper pronounciation?

[name]One[/name] of the reasons we love the name [name]Lachlan[/name] is the meaning: a Scottish name for one from Norway, the land of lakes. My husband is of Norwegian heritage and is from Minnesota (also the land of lakes!).

Since it’s so meaningful to you, what about using [name]Lachlan[/name] as a middle name.

[name]Oakley[/name] [name]Lachlan[/name] is a bit L heavy but it could work.

[name]Zander[/name] [name]Lachlan[/name] sounds great!

by the by, [name]Waverly[/name] is very pretty, what middle are you using?

It’s funny that I never really thought of using [name]Lachlan[/name] as a middle name. That’s a great suggestion though. We haven’t put much thought into middle names yet, being as stuck as we are on first names.

For [name]Waverly[/name], we are considering [name]Willow[/name] for a middle name. I usually don’t like that kind of first letter alliteration, and [name]Waverly[/name] [name]Willow[/name] has kind of a hippy sound to it, but I’m in love with it nevertheless!

I love [name]Nolan[/name]! Especially the meaning makes it so much better!

I think [name]Lachlan[/name] is too close to the other name and its a little feminine to me. I really don’t like [name]Oakley[/name]. I love [name]Dash[/name] without the iell. I’m neutral about [name]Nolan[/name].
