Opinions on the name for a girl and the name in general?
I think it works great for a girl. Tbh when I think of the name I picture a girl not a boy. I find it very feminine especially if you spell it with an ‘y’. I like the spelling Lochlyn better
A unique choice, but I like it!!! I think it would be really pretty for a girl!
As far as the spelling, I think it depends where you live. If you’re in the US I would go with [name_f]Locklyn[/name_f] to avoid people mispronouncing “Lach”. If you’re in Europe or elsewhere that may not be an issue though.
Good luck!!
I prefer this name on a boy, but I do see the appeal on a girl. What do you think about Locksley/Loxley?
I prefer the spelling Lochlyn, but I can see how that might be a pronunciation issue in the US. Lachlyn kind of reminds me of Lakelyn and I don’t particularly like that? Locklyn could work, definitely would get pronounced correctly but I still prefer Lochlyn. I definitely think this works on a girl and I really quite like it.
LOVE Loxley.
Prefer this name on a boy and have had so many interactions with boys named this that I can’t picture it on a girl.
I could picture a girl Loxley as a previous poster has suggested. Or Laeken/Lakyn/[name_u]Laken[/name_u]/Leicolhn(know a girl called this)

I don’t normally like being so universally negative about a name, but I honestly cannot imagine why anyone would take such a strong, handsome name as [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and kill it by spelling it [name_f]Locklyn[/name_f], and then use it on a girl. Taking a name from another culture and then using it incorrectly (such as on the wrong gender) is wrong no matter what culture you’re taking it from. [name_f]Locklyn[/name_f] is awful, and worse on a girl.
I don’t mind [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] for a boy (extremely popular here in Australia - has been in the top 20 for the past 20 years…), and love the simple Norwegian/Scottish history of how the name originally came about. However, I can’t say I’m at all keen on Lachlyn or [name_f]Locklyn[/name_f], which to me, just look very trendy with the -lyn ending and the whole currently popular boy-name-on-girl trend. I also find it quite visually awkward and harsh in sound with the sharpness of the K and Y together and the jarring ‘OKK’ sound. I do prefer a smoother, gentler sounding name myself, boy or girl. That said, yes, it could work if you really wanted it to and would fit right in with the trends.
I’m not a fan, sorry… It’s not my style. I’m not sure how to pronounce it either.
I’ve always found the sound of [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] to be quite feminine. I’d definitely use it, but would spell it the traditional way, [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. No need to mess with a good thing.
