My wife and I are expecting our first baby in 4 weeks. It’s a girl. Our last names are so long and difficult to spell/pronounce so we’ve decided to change our last names before finding a good name for our daughter. I need some opinions. My name is [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] and my wife name is [name_f]Julia[/name_f]. We’re thinking [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f] or [name_f]Juno[/name_f] for our daughter. Here are some last names we’ve been considering :
I would suggest a single syllable last name as it sounds better with multiple syllable names. For this reason I would recommend [name_u]Sky[/name_u], [name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_f]May[/name_f], Heart/[name_m]Hart[/name_m], or even keep your last name! I think either Nobel or [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] would even be cute as middle names! Maybe consider [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] or [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Lily[/name_f]? [name_f]Happy[/name_f] for you both and wishing you the best!
I think [name_m]Noble[/name_m] sounds the most like a last name to me. I don’t think [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] sounds great with [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]. I love the idea of [name_u]Sky[/name_u], but I’m so accustomed to seeing [name_u]Sky[/name_u] or [name_u]Skye[/name_u] as a first or middle name that it’s hard to imagine it as a last name.
Of your options I love [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and [name_f]Juno[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] sound particularly nice. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] sound great as well. [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u], and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] all sound amazing but the [name_u]Sky[/name_u] part still sounds like a middle name to me.
I really like [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] for the last name. What about [name_m]Beckett[/name_m], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]?
For you daughter’s name, I’m really loving [name_f]Aria[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is one of my favorites, but I’m not sure how well it sounds with a 2 syllable last name. [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is sweet, but just seems a bit more uncommon. I love it as a middle name.
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f]!!
I think [name_m]Noble[/name_m] sounds the most like a surname from your options. Are there options in either your or wife’s family that could work? My surname is a shortened version of what is used to be when the family came through [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] Island, there are actually a couple variants of it in the family. Can your name be shortened? Other options:
Have you thought about combining your names into one? Maybe just taking a syllable from each if they are really long. I know a few couples who have done that as an alternative to just one of them changing their name and I like it. It seems more meaningful than just choosing a new last name.
I think [name_m]Noble[/name_m] sounds most like a surname but the N sound doesn’t really flow well with your name - they kind of run together? Ethanolan or Ethanoble - I think you’re right that you need something with a consonant at the beginning to fit best with your wife’s name and potential daughter’s names, all of which end in a vowel sound.
