The wife and I are having a second son and we both love short boy names. We aren’t sure if the names [name_m]Lars[/name_m] or [name_u]Lou[/name_u] are a little too odd for a kid. We’ve already shot down some other shorter names, like [name_m]Axel[/name_m], [name_m]Gage[/name_m], and [name_m]Penn[/name_m]. We aren’t a fan of making names longer to get nicknames out of them either, like [name_m]Larson[/name_m] or [name_m]Louis[/name_m]/[name_m]Louie[/name_m].
Our first son is already named [name_u]Van[/name_u], but we don’t really care about name matching or anything.
Does anyone have thoughts on the names mentioned, or have ideas of other short boy names?
[name_u]Van[/name_u] and [name_m]Lars[/name_m] sound great together. [name_u]Lou[/name_u] is OK, though I prefer [name_m]Lew[/name_m].
I love a lot of short male names: [name_m]Drake[/name_m], [name_m]Keir[/name_m], [name_u]Elm[/name_u], [name_m]Sven[/name_m], [name_u]Tate[/name_u], [name_m]Ford[/name_m], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_m]Robb[/name_m], [name_m]Dwight[/name_m], [name_m]Ned[/name_m], [name_m]Hyde[/name_m], [name_m]Park[/name_m], [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], [name_m]Abe[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_m]Zeb[/name_m], [name_u]Yule[/name_u], [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_u]Kim[/name_u], [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], [name_m]Piet[/name_m], [name_m]Den[/name_m], [name_m]Wells[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], [name_m]Len[/name_m], [name_m]Mitch[/name_m], [name_m]Rich[/name_m], [name_m]Lon[/name_m], [name_u]Sal[/name_u], [name_m]Sol[/name_m], [name_m]Thane[/name_m], [name_m]Laird[/name_m], [name_u]Mead[/name_u], [name_m]Bede[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_m]Scot[/name_m], [name_m]Kip[/name_m], [name_u]Glen[/name_u], [name_m]Wood[/name_m], [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_m]Muir[/name_m], [name_m]Moss[/name_m], [name_m]Venn[/name_m], [name_u]Roan[/name_u], [name_u]Grove[/name_u], [name_m]Doug[/name_m], [name_m]Howe[/name_m], [name_m]Lowe[/name_m], [name_m]Stan[/name_m], [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_u]Noel[/name_u], [name_m]Joel[/name_m], [name_u]Drew[/name_u], [name_m]Lowell[/name_m], [name_m]Newel[/name_m], [name_m]Gil[/name_m], [name_m]Burl[/name_m], and so many more.
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u]
I prefer [name_u]Lou[/name_u] (but personally I would like [name_m]Louis[/name_m]/[name_m]Lewis[/name_m] as full name). [name_m]Lars[/name_m] sounds very Nordic to me. I also like [name_m]Lev[/name_m].
[name_m]Dex[/name_m]
[name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_m]Jed[/name_m]
[name_u]Lex[/name_u]
[name_m]Ty[/name_m]
[name_m]Lars[/name_m] sounds much better in my opinion, [name_u]Lou[/name_u] makes me think of an old man and idk if it would age well
I prefer [name_m]Lars[/name_m] - good name I think.
I at first would assume that [name_u]Lou[/name_u] was a girl, though there are plenty of unisex names out there and it’s not necessarily a problem. I suppose I assume this because [name_u]Lou[/name_u] on its own is a popular girl’s name in [name_f]France[/name_f], and the [name_u]Lou[/name_u]'s I’ve known have been [name_f]Louise[/name_f].
I like [name_m]Louis[/name_m], the long form, better.
One of my all time favourite short boy’s names is [name_u]Rafe[/name_u].
I absolutely love the name [name_u]Lou[/name_u] Loup is a real name, it means wolf in [name_m]French[/name_m] (we don’t pronounce the P). It’s common for boys and girls (more for girls). I prefer on a boy by a far!
“[name_u]Unique[/name_u]” names run in the family (my mother is named “Delphinium,” after the flower, for instance) and I think I’m also leaning towards [name_m]Lars[/name_m] at the moment.
The thing is, our surname starts with a soft C sound and now I’m beginning to think the name [name_m]Lars[/name_m] C-- would slur too much together when said aloud.
