Last minute decision-will we regret this name

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] All-C-Section tomorrow!
I have posted before about [name_m]Kian[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Cian[/name_m] spellings…[name_u]Love[/name_u] the “SOUND” of the name (Key-In), but haven’t loved any of the spellings.

Agreed with all you Name Berries about preferring the ‘[name_m]Cian[/name_m]’ spelling, but no one, and I mean NO ONE near us pronounced it correctly. Also agreed whole heartedly with the feedback that ‘[name_m]Kian[/name_m]’ looked as if it followed the Kardashian trend.

So…if we still love this name, and go with a very Americanized spelling ‘Keean’ do you think we will get the pronunciation we want (Key-In)? That’s my question

If not, we will likely go with the name ‘[name_u]Reid[/name_u]’ instead…which I like very much, but have been favoring the sound of “Keean” for so long. Thanks, Berries!

Mmm when I see [name_m]Cian[/name_m] it reminds me of the printer cartridge colours one of which is [name_m]Cian[/name_m] and it always looks like a hard name to say is it [name_f]Ki[/name_f] ann or Key ann or [name_u]Si[/name_u] ann?

If you like Key in I would instead go for [name_u]Keenan[/name_u] and if you love [name_u]Reid[/name_u] the combo that I would go for would be [name_u]Reid[/name_u] [name_u]Keenan[/name_u].

Good luck and please post in our births section.

rollo

[name_u]Reid[/name_u] is so handsome…Keean seems a bit creative. Sorry if that was not the answer you wanted. BUT you need to go with your gut! good luck with c section and being a mama!

Keean is unattractive and looks kr8iv. Definitely go with [name_m]Cian[/name_m] or [name_m]Kian[/name_m], I prefer [name_m]Cian[/name_m].
Good luck.

Personally Keean does not look pleasant at all or that it is a typo and you forgot the N in [name_u]Keenan[/name_u]. [name_m]Cian[/name_m] is a very handsome name. I prefer this spelling. I think so what if people around do not know how to pronounce it. Your family, friends, and neighbors will know because you will tell them. I honestly do not understand how people do not know how to pronounce it. A perfectly good name shouldn’t be dumped because of issues with others.

One of my top names is [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m]. I can understand people not knowing how to pronounce this name. I didn’t know at first either. It will not stop me from using it. People that matter in his life would learn how it’s pronounced. Family and friends I have talked about the name with love it ounce they know the pronunciation. BTW, it is TIYG, like the first syllable in tiger.

I also do not care for Keean BUT, if I picked a name that was constantly mispronounced it would drive me crazy so for me, it would be enough not to choose that name. Though I do think the [name_m]Cian[/name_m] spelling is the nicest, I don’t personally think that [name_m]Kian[/name_m] is reminiscent of the Kardashians at all and might be a nice compromise. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because these people have picked K names for their kids doesn’t mean all K names are off limits!

[name_u]Reid[/name_u] is also very handsome and would be a great option. I also like the idea of [name_m]Cian[/name_m]/[name_m]Kian[/name_m] as a middle if you go with this one.

On first uneducated glance, I would pronounce [name_m]Cian[/name_m] as [name_u]Cyan[/name_u] (like the colour), [name_m]Kian[/name_m] as k-eye-ann, and Keean as [name_m]Keen[/name_m]. Because the pronunciation you desire is not at all intuitive to the untrained eye, I imagine this will be mispronounced constantly. If you’re comfortable with a lifetime having to correct people, they seem like very nice names, but I know that personally, I would rather not have to.

I really like [name_u]Reid[/name_u], and I think it has a similar feel to [name_m]Cian[/name_m]. What about using [name_m]Cian[/name_m] as a second middle name? [name_u]Reid[/name_u] _______ [name_m]Cian[/name_m]

It’s really hard for me to give [name_m]Cian[/name_m] that hard ‘K’ sound it needs because it’s not like the name [name_f]Catie[/name_f] or [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. The ‘I’ after the C is what throws me off. I would go with [name_m]Kian[/name_m] and to be honest who cares about the Kardashian’s? I mean really?

I would just go with [name_m]Cian[/name_m]. [name_m]Kian[/name_m] would be my 2nd fav spelling. Keean is more Kardashian than [name_m]Kian[/name_m]. Keean looks kind of weird with the 3 vowels beside each other. I would think it was a typo for [name_u]Keenan[/name_u]. Either way you are going to have to spell it out so just with the correct spelling. People in your circle will learn to spell and say it quickly.

[name_u]Reid[/name_u] is nice and I actually prefer it over [name_m]Cian[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Ian[/name_m] (ee-an)? I feel like most people know how to pronounce it. There is also [name_m]Canaan[/name_m], which sounds similar.

I’m with [name_m]Rollo[/name_m]!!!

I think [name_m]Cian[/name_m] is a beautiful name. Keean might get you the pronunciation you want, but I think a lot of people might misread is as [name_u]Keenan[/name_u]. Keean also looks like you were either getting creative with your spelling or you forgot a letter. I would definitely use [name_u]Reid[/name_u] before Keean, but I think you should just go with the name you love in its original spelling.

I would go with [name_m]Kian[/name_m]. Might have some slight pronunciation issues, but nowhere near as many as [name_m]Cian[/name_m]–I’ve heard people think this name was pronounced like [name_m]Sean[/name_m]. At least there’s no soft k… ppl might say kye-an, in which case simply saying ‘it’s like [name_m]Ian[/name_m] with a k’ should stick. Good luck!

I would definiately go with [name_m]Kian[/name_m], great name! but I am in the UK and this is a recognisable name/spelling for an irish pop singer. Personally don’t love the Keean spelling as it seems more confusing that using [name_m]Cian[/name_m] or [name_m]Kian[/name_m]? Ignore the Kardashian advice, no one will think that!
good luck! Whatever you chose will be lovely x

I never thought of this idea, but that’s a great way to make the pronunciation stick. Everyone knows about [name_m]Ian[/name_m], and it’s easier to say on the phone than, “[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_m]Cian[/name_m]…no, not a K…it’s C, I, A, N…spelled like the color with an I…no, it’s doesn’t sound like [name_u]Cyan[/name_u], but it looks like [name_u]Cyan[/name_u]…” [name_m]Just[/name_m], “[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_m]Kian[/name_m]…like [name_m]Ian[/name_m] with a K in front.” Much better. I think that makes it usable.

I prefer [name_m]Kian[/name_m]. I don’t think the hard K is as evident in [name_m]Cian[/name_m] and it would be pronounced wrong more frequently. Good luck!!

I agree that [name_m]Cian[/name_m] is more pleasing to the eye, but more often than not I agree that people will use the soft C sound. [name_m]Kian[/name_m] is my vote for that reason- keean looks made up.

I also liked the previous suggestion of [name_u]Reed[/name_u] [name_u]Keenan[/name_u] or [name_u]Keegan[/name_u]

While [name_m]Cian[/name_m] is an Irish name, the spelling [name_m]Kian[/name_m] is a Persian name which means “king”. Yes, “K” spellings are trendy due to the Kardashian’s misspelling habit but [name_m]Kian[/name_m] really isn’t in the same category because it’s legitimate. If you love the name then choose the [name_m]Kian[/name_m] spelling if you think it would be pronounced correctly. The term “Americanized” shouldn’t mean butchering the spelling of a name. Keean just looks like a misspelled mess and I would be more apt to think that this spelling would be something the Kardashian clan would pick. I like [name_u]Reid[/name_u] too but it seems like it would be second choice for you.

I see nothing wrong with [name_m]Kian[/name_m]. It’s a K name that I have seen around long before the Kardashians.

I would definitely go with [name_m]Kian[/name_m]. I would have guessed [name_m]Cian[/name_m] was pronounced like see-an and at first glance I though [name_m]Kian[/name_m] was [name_m]Kain[/name_m], but after further inspection I got it. From a completely unfamiliar eye, [name_m]Kian[/name_m] will get you the correct pronunciation, not [name_m]Cian[/name_m] [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. And I wouldn’t have thought of the Kardashians one bit.
