Last minute help with name: Jane or Elizabeth?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], we’re having a baby girl any day now and we can’t decide on a name (I can’t believe it!). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (we’d probably use the full name or may use [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] as a family nn).

We both have E names so can’t decide if naming her [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is too cutesy or if it’s actually kind of cool. I’m also worried that it’s too common although there are tons of nicknames so maybe not many people go by the full name. The neat thing about [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is it’s a family name on both sides honoring two grandmas and two great-grandmas.

We both really like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] too. It’s less common than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and seems refreshing on a little one. We also wouldn’t have to worry about all having E names. We’ve gotten some feedback that people don’t like the name and find it plain, but there’s no name everyone likes.

So berries, please help! Let me know your thoughts on both. Thanks!

I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! It’s strong, clean and classic. It’s also one of those names that suits every personality–grungy, artistic [name_f]Jane[/name_f] from [name_f]Daria[/name_f], witty and biting [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u], a bad ass, or a good girl. I agree, I think it sounds refreshing on a little girl. I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] too but it might be nice to take a break from the E’s and many Elizabeths in your family. You could just use it as a middle name. I’m sure naysayers will change their mind when they meet your cute little [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

[name_f]Jane[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] deserves more attention. It has a pretty sound, and is more uncommon than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! Also, if you used [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], you may feel obligated to use another E name for your next child to continue the pattern!

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!
A whole lot better than the overused [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! I don’t think it is plain at all. It’s strong, sweet and pretty with no frill. I would pick [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

Both are beautiful but I say go with [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is a nice nickname, and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] sounds a little old-fashioned. Maybe you could give her the middle name [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - so [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

That is just my two scents. Of course it’s up to you what you name your daughter.

Thank you all for the feedback! I’m a name enthusiast and had no idea how difficult it would be to pick one. I’m glad to hear so much positive feedback on [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

Oh well another [name_f]Jane[/name_f]- its simply stunning. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is great but
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is just my very favorite name. Best wishes.

I love both, but prefer [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]; it’s my daughter’s name. But [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is wonderful, too, and I would have considered it myself if we didn’t have a one-syllable last name.

There are more Elizabeths than [name_f]Janes[/name_f], but most Elizabeths go by a nickname, so it doesn’t feel like there are so many…you might not know another little girl who goes by [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. (Unless you’re in the UK, where I think [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] as an individual given name may be pretty popular right now).

I do agree that, if you name your daughter [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], you may feel compelled to give any and all children who follow E names as well, so that’s something to consider. If you’re OK with that, or if you’re sure you’re just having the one, then not a concern.

I love both and think that the nickname [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is sweet! I’d probably go with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] if you’re not wanting to give all of your children names starting with E. If you name her [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], people would likely be surprised if your next child didn’t also start with an E. However, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] flows better than [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to me.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are both gorgeous names! They’re both elegant, regal timeless classics to me. I love the Pride and Prejudice references with both. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is one of my favourite names though so I’d have to vote for it. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would both be lovely combinations.
