We have two boys, named [name_m]Smith[/name_m] and [name_u]Parker[/name_u] and are now expecting a girl.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband really likes [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], but I don’t feel comfortable using it when it means “ugly/ deformed head”, and I don’t think the nn [name_m]Kenny[/name_m] is feminine enough.
He then suggested [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u], with the nn [name_f]Demi[/name_f] but I’m also not sure if it’s feminine.
I had a dream we called her [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], with the nn [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], but he really doesn’t like it and refuses to use it…. I think it’s gorgeous, but want us to agree on a name we both love. It also doesn’t go with our last name theme.
So I guess I’m wondering people’s thoughts on [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u]. We’re from Australia and I’ve never heard anyone with this name.
I’m hoping it grows on me because it’s the only one we’ve come up with that one of us doesn’t hate.
I’ve looked through so many forums for last names as first names for girls and there’s just no others that I’m loving
Personally, I don’t love [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u], but it’s certainly not a bad name and I think with the nickname [name_f]Demi[/name_f] it’s no less feminine than popular surname names for girls, like [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Harlow[/name_u], etc.
You might like [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] “Dolly” or [name_u]Holland[/name_u] “Holly”?
Not a fan of Dempsey. Demi as a first name (not a nn) sounds way better imo.
How about
Monroe
Arden
Quinn
Sage
Spencer
Regan
Blake
Everett
Linden
Ellis
I don’t love Dempsey. I think the ending is cute but the beginning just makes me think of the words “damp” or “dump”, neither of which has a great meaning.
Some ideas
Campbell “Belle”
Calloway “Callie”
Caraway “Cara”
Harlow
Harley
Hallan “Hallie”
Jolie
Linden “Lindie”
Marley
Marlowe
Merrigan “Merri” or “Mae”
Madigan “Maddie”
Monroe “Roe”
Harper
Sinclair “Clair”
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite surname as a first name is [name_u]Anderson[/name_u] “Andi”! I think that it’s so feminine and unique! Another suggestion is [name_f]Anniston[/name_f] “Annie”.
I don’t love the name, but I really like [name_f]Demi[/name_f].
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u] nn [name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_u]Ellison[/name_u] nn [name_f]Elli[/name_f]
[name_m]Reyes[/name_m]
[name_u]Fallon[/name_u]
[name_u]Windsor[/name_u] nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or Wind
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_u]Tierney[/name_u] nn [name_f]Tia[/name_f]
[name_u]Thayer[/name_u] nn [name_m]Thay[/name_m]
[name_u]Dempsey[/name_u] isnt my favorite but [name_f]Demi[/name_f] is cute! [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u] also seems elaborate next to [name_m]Smith[/name_m] and [name_u]Parker[/name_u]. I do really like [name_u]Harper[/name_u] or [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] for a girl. [name_u]Collins[/name_u] has grown on me too. [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] could have nn [name_f]Demi[/name_f].
I don’t mind [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u] actually, but I would expect it to be a boy in your set (it actually feels more masculine to me than Parker) so that gives me pause. It reminds me a lot of [name_u]Beckham[/name_u] since [name_m]Clint[/name_m] [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u] is my only association with the name.
[name_f]Demi[/name_f] is cute though! Maybe you’ll like [name_u]Devin[/name_u] or [name_u]Emery[/name_u]?
I actually know a [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u] and I think it is a very sweet name (I’m from the US). Another option could be [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] (nn Sully)!
We are a last name as first name family too! We have a daughter named [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. We like names [name_f]Anniston[/name_f] (Annie for short) Demery ( short for Demi) [name_u]Blakely[/name_u], [name_u]Monroe[/name_u], and Weslie
What about [name_u]Frost[/name_u]? Nn: Frostie, fits in with other season names but a little more unique and a literary last name also.
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] with nn: [name_f]Franki[/name_f] is sweet
Lalique: nn [name_f]Kiki[/name_f] (maybe a bit of a long bow on the nickname) a famous [name_u]French[/name_u] jeweller Surname.
I don’t love [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u] but it’s not less feminine than the popular [name_u]Harper[/name_u]. [name_f]Demi[/name_f] is nice.
I like the suggestions of [name_u]Holland[/name_u] or [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] nn [name_u]Holly[/name_u], Cassidy/Cassie or [name_f]Cady[/name_f], Calloway/Callie. I love [name_u]Regan[/name_u] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] for a girl.
Other ideas:
Bayliss
[name_u]Fifer[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellery[/name_u]
Aylett
[name_u]Tierney[/name_u]
[name_u]Romilly[/name_u]
Willacy
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
Congratulations!!! I absolutely love surnames in the first spot and I like [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u]! I think it’s perfectly unisex but with the nickname [name_f]Demi[/name_f] I think it leans more female. I love [name_f]Demi[/name_f] with [name_m]Smith[/name_m] and [name_u]Parker[/name_u] - i also think [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] works as a nickname for [name_u]Dempsey[/name_u] (although a stretch)
Would Demaris (Demi) make it more feminine for you ?
[name_m]Demarion[/name_m]
Demissy
It’s interesting, I feel a little like something about it puts me off of it but I can’t place exactly what so it could be a personal problem. [name_f]Demi[/name_f] could be a cute nn. I want to suggest [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] as an option, it’s a surname and has a history as a given name for girls, I went to school with a [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], more feminine perhaps while still being entirely unisex and underused.
