Last name rhyming with first?

We’re expecting a girl and we really like the name Dawn. Sounds like a passive persons name and overall a nice one. The only problem is having is rhyming with the last name. Last name is Wong and it just doesnt sound right when saying Dawn and Wong at the same time. Is it just me or do you guys agree?
We really like the name Dawn but if it just doesnt fit the last name we’d have to come up with something, which is not ideal.

Edit: Another problem is having both names with 1 syllable. Any feedback as far as that?

In my opinion, it just doesn’t work.

The fact that they are both one syllable is a strike against the name, but not enough to rule it out. However, the similarities between first and last would be enough to rule it out to me. Not only do they rhyme, but (at least in my accent) [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m] sounds awfully close to [name_m]Don[/name_m] [name_m]Juan[/name_m] which isn’t something I would want my daughter associated with.

I think you need to keep looking. [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] just doesn’t work. Have you considered [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]? It means [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m] is much prettier.

[name_f]Dawn[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m] doesn’t sound good

I’m sorry, I really dislike the sound of it
I second [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m] nn [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]!

I hear “done wrong” when I try to say [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m]. :frowning: I think a single syllable name is generally fine, but I wouldn’t recommend using [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] as a first name.

I think with a long version of [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] you could still use it as a nickname:
[name_f]Dawna[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m]
[name_u]Donnelly[/name_u] [name_m]Wong[/name_m]
[name_f]Donia[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m]
[name_f]Donnay[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m]
[name_f]Donatella[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m]

What about [name_u]Dana[/name_u]? It is nice and short, and [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] seems like a possible nickname.

I agree that [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] does not work with [name_m]Wong[/name_m]. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is a nice alternative, and nickname [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is appealing.

Some other names that I like with good meanings:

[name_u]Dara[/name_u] - pearl of wisdom
[name_f]Danika[/name_f] - morning star
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] - tranquil, serene
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] - gold
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] - strong
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - happiness
[name_u]Seren[/name_u], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Estella[/name_f] - star
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - heavenly

These would all work with your surname.

Is a tricky one, especially when you love a name, but two one syllable names already hard and they do sound very similar.

Seconding/thirding/fourthing [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Black[/name_m] rhymes and he seems to not mind.

Only works on young kids

It doesn’t work for me either, sorry. [name_f]Donna[/name_f] [name_m]Wong[/name_m] sounds fine, but [name_f]Donna[/name_f] is rather dated. I love the suggestion of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
