I’m expecting in [name_f]September[/name_f] and though Hubby and I have made a short list I keep coming back to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], which is not on the list because of me, I’m not sure how he feels about it. It’s more popular than I prefer (and higher in my state than nationally) but I love the name and the nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f].
However, I think it might be too much with the last name, and would like to hear others opinions. Our last name sounds like [name_u]Allison[/name_u], but starts with an E. does “[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] *[name_u]Allison[/name_u]” sound like the beginning of a Dr. Suess poem or am I just crazy. We would pick a totally different sounding middle, but I’m not sure that would be enough.
Thanks much!
I dislike popular names, and it does sound like a tongue twister but you could make it work out if it really is the one
what about [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Yvette[/name_f], [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], [name_f]Evadne[/name_f], [name_u]Everly[/name_u] or just [name_f]Evie[/name_f]?
I adore [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]…and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_f]Evvie[/name_f]. I know of only one, a preschool age girl.
It might not be the best sound wise but it is not that bad. I know plenty of people, and hear ones often, that have much worse first name, surname combinations. The general population would not even notice, or care.
Thanks for the opinions. None of the other Ev- names hit me the right way, they’re all ok but I don’t love any of them. Time to see what Hubby thinks.
I don’t think it works with your surname, sorry. I think you need to go back to the drawing board. I like [name_f]Evie[/name_f] just as is, or [name_f]Eve[/name_f], which would be fine with your surname.
It’s not terrible but I do find it quite repetitive, sorry. Both names are three syllables with emphasis on the first and end in N. Both have “ell” sounds; in fact they share all the same sounds except the “V” in [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and the “S” in your surname.
I prefer [name_f]Eve[/name_f] with your surname. You’ve probably thought of it already, but other ways to get to “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]” might be [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], Annevieve, Annevi, [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f], [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], [name_f]Evadne[/name_f], [name_f]Ivalo[/name_f]… you could even do initials E.V. (like [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Violette[/name_f] “E.V.” for example).
I think it’s OK if [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is your favourite name. It sounds like she’d be [name_f]Evie[/name_f] *[name_u]Allison[/name_u] most of the time anyway.
Would you be pronouncing the full name “EEV-lin” or “EV-uh-lin”? I know the latter is more common now but the former is also a legitimate pronunciation and takes it closer in sound to your preferred nickname of [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and further from your surname. Might be worth considering?
Thanks all, Hubby veto’ed anyway. I do also love [name_f]Evaine[/name_f], but he does not.
