Last Names

If you were going to change your last name what would you change it to? Dh and I are thinking of doing so and would like some ideas. Thanks:)

If I could change my last name, I’d change it to Pear. Why? Because my current last name means “pear tree” but it is pretty difficult for the average American to spell and pronounce. So I think Pear would be a cute homage to my last name while making things easier for me. I also wouldn’t have to give up my last initial or my cherished meaning. Another more tame option for me would be [name_u]Perry[/name_u]!

Interesting question! Perhaps I would go back to my maiden name, which is Italian and rather obscure. Then again, if I had to change it to something completely different, I think the the surname Hastings is fantastic. I also like [name_m]Granger[/name_m].

I would look in my family tree for alternates or make a smoosh using the two surnames.

I love collecting awesome surnames that I hear in real life! Some of my favourites are Greatorex, Skarsgard, Valistar, Zotto and Popplewell. I also love my own (married) surname but that shall remain a secret…

[name_u]Winter[/name_u]. Because a) I love the imagery, b) it’s my favourite [name_f]Tori[/name_f] [name_m]Amos[/name_m] song, and c) both my OH and I have six-letter surnames starting with W so it wouldn’t be a huge departure from our existing surnames.

We are genuinely thinking of taking on a new family surname when we have children and this is one of our top contenders.

My first thought was… Song. I just like the musical connection, I guess…

I actually really like my last name but I also love the name bronte or gilbert, so I think i’d change it to that if I could

Thanks for the feedback ladies! We have a long Polish surname that is difficult to pronounce and spell. My maiden name is similar. We don’t really have anything to do with dh’s family so we don’t feel connected to the name and although we are proud of our heritage no one in our family has spoken a Slavic language for 5 generations now so we are wanting something easy to spell and pronounce in English. But with that caveat we don’t want it to sound to soap-operaish either. [name_u]Winter[/name_u]/[name_m]Winters[/name_m] was on out list but I am not sure if it sounds kind of made up. So far we are also considering:

[name_m]Hale[/name_m]/Hales
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]Gardner[/name_u]
[name_u]Grey[/name_u]
[name_f]Snow[/name_f]
[name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_m]Foster[/name_m]
[name_f]Sommers[/name_f]

I also liked the suggestion of Hastings. Please let me know what you think and give any other suggestions that you have! Thanks

Out of your list I really like [name_m]Hale[/name_m].

I really love my last name. It’s also a short 4 letter name so that might be why I like [name_m]Hale[/name_m] so much. I also like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and Hastings. My SO and I will eventually elope and I will take his last name which I like but not as much as my family name. Also my last name dies with me which makes it hard for me to give up! Naming our baby would be way easier with my last name too.

If I were to choose a new last name I’d consider in order of my favourites:
[name_m]Hale[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_m]Wood[/name_m]
Danes
[name_m]Oswald[/name_m]
[name_u]Finch[/name_u]
[name_m]Nash[/name_m]
Hastings
[name_m]Hart[/name_m]

I quite like [name_u]Reid[/name_u].
