I like [name]Jack[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name] the best. I pronounce [name]Hawthorne[/name] as ha-thorn. Ha as in “haha!”

Second choice would be [name]August[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name].

I still like [name]Jack[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name] best. I pronounce it with the soft “o” like moth. It had never occurred to me it would be pronouncing it differently!

Im pretty sure everyone pronounces it Haw-thorn not hay-thorn. I like the name!

Thanks everyone! All of you are pronouncing it the same way that I pronounce it but my husband’s family pronounces it hath like it rhymes with bath, which I’m not a fan of…
Any other middle name suggestions to go with [name]Jack[/name]? I would like a nature name for the middle name spot if we name him [name]Jack[/name]. I love the name [name]River[/name] as a middle but it doesn’t really work with [name]Jack[/name]… Any other ideas would be great. Thanks!

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Jack[/name] [name]August[/name]! The best of both worlds, I’d say! Then again, [name]Jack[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]Cole[/name] has been on my top 5 for quite some time now, I really adore it. I like [name]Jack[/name] [name]August[/name] and [name]August[/name] [name]Henry[/name] the best from your short list–I don’t feel like [name]August[/name] is first name potential for me, either, but it seems like you’ve been worried about [name]Jack[/name] for so long. Honestly, how many have you come across? With smaller kids (at least, I’m assuming [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] are fairly young still!), I would think you’d have a general idea of what’s popular in your area. I mean, I could care less about the popularity–I’d be using it in honor of my dad and brother, so that meaning trumps popularity for me (plus, a couple amazing literary references. [name]Jack[/name] Worthing, for one!). [name]Jack[/name] is popular (as well as [name]Jax[/name]/[name]Jackson[/name]/etc.), but if that’s what I loved the most, I’d go for it. I’d have to get through a couple other favorites before I ended up with a [name]Jack[/name], though, personally.

Good luck!

[name]Hawthorne[/name] is a name of a footy team here in Australia; pron. Hor-thorn. ‘Haw’ as in ‘Oar’…

Very masculine name, as is [name]Carlton[/name] ( tho I can’t see an Essendon popping up anytime soon lol ); you have some great options on your shortlist

Congratulations OP, and all the best

I really like the combination of [name]Jack[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name]! I pronounce the first syllable of [name]Hawthorne[/name] so that it rhymes with moth.

Thank you all for your comments and help!

[name]Ash[/name]- I have met a few little Jacks around- there has never been more than one in any class that my older daughter has been in. But when you look at the charts and you combine all the ways to get to [name]Jack[/name] ([name]John[/name], [name]Jackson[/name], and variant spellings) I can’t imagine that we won’t meet multiple others with the same name. Doesn’t bother my husband a bit, but obviously bothers me… But probably not enough not to use the name when we don’t have many that we agree on. If I was naming this baby on my own, [name]Jack[/name] would definitely not be my top choice…

paw-thank you for the middle name suggestions. I really like [name]Jack[/name] [name]Wilder[/name]. My husband is debating it as an option…

My husband and I just had another name conversation and he told me that although he doesn’t like [name]August[/name] [name]Henry[/name] as a combination, he really likes [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name]. I [name]ADORE[/name] the name [name]Henry[/name] and it would positively be my top choice for this baby’s first name if my husband would agree. But he won’t use it as a first name. So- if we use [name]Henry[/name] in the middle name spot, then I could sometimes maybe call him [name]Henry[/name]? Or at least [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name] together sometimes… Or do I use [name]Hawthorne[/name] as a middle because it is more special and has the nature connection that I want? [name]Henry[/name] is getting more popular and maybe [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name] just doesn’t have the same wow factor that [name]Jack[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name] has?

What do you think?

[name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name] (and then I get my favorite name in there) or
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name] (more unique/great combo but I’m giving up [name]Henry[/name] which I’ve been bugging my husband to use forever…)
And the third option he said okay to although it’s his least favorite- [name]August[/name] [name]James[/name]

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. The more pressured for time I feel, the more indecisive I feel…

[name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is sweet. Normally I don’t like [name]Henry[/name], but it sounds great in that context.

I like [name]August[/name] [name]James[/name]. I think the nn AJ could be really cute. I feel like [name]Jack[/name] is a bit overdone and boring.

Pick [name]August[/name] [name]Henry[/name] <3

I really love [name]Jack[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name] and can’t imagine anyone pronouncing it like bath! I also like [name]August[/name] [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name] – great choices. Good luck with the decision!

Why would anyone say hay-thorn? a+w= or like saw! I like all of your combinations and cannot choose which to vote for.

I think your in-laws are just pronouncing it incorrectly. The ‘w’ helps create the soft -a sound (rhyming with moth) as opposed to the harder -a sound (rhyming with bath). I like [name]Jack[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name].

When I was reading your post about another mn for [name]Jack[/name], I thought of [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name]! So I think [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is just perfect for you - [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is very handsome and to me, it does have a “wow” factor.

Thank you all for your help! We are 2 days away from meeting our little guy and our frontrunner is [name]Jack[/name]. Either [name]Jack[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name] or [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name]. [name]August[/name] [name]James[/name] is a distant third. It’s tough because [name]Jack[/name] doesn’t feel like the “perfect” name to me but it feels more right than [name]August[/name] does I think. And my husband will not consider any other possibilities outside of those two at this point. Our younger daughter’s name [name]Violet[/name] felt like the perfect name to me from day 1 of my pregnancy - I just loved her name so much and still do. I wish I could feel that way about this baby’s name but maybe that is just how it goes when you have to compromise with someone else…
Thank you again!!
