We’re due in less than a month, and as we’re still blind on the baby’s gender, we’ve tentatively decided on a boy and girl name (many thanks to all those who helped/gave suggestions!):
[name_m]Kaspar[/name_m] [name_u]Sloan[/name_u]
or
[name_f]Dominica[/name_f] [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] (originally mn [name_u]Sage[/name_u], which I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f], but DH pointed out it would sound like “[name_f]Dominica[/name_f]'s age”)
What do you think? Is there anything potentially embarrassing or negative or tease-able that we’ve overlooked? Does it flow well? Is it versatile enough to grow with my child? Golly I’m so nervous, everything about having my first kid is frazzling the inner control freak in me…:o
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry, all will go well I’m sure :). Your name choices aren’t potentially embarrassing at all, so no need to worry about your child getting teased over his or her name. I think the boy names flow best, but really, who ever says both of their names aloud anyway, flow isn’t of the utmost importance! Good luck with the birth!
Since I have an irrational aversion to the letter “K” (it began long before the Kardashian clan appeared on the scene but they have made it even worse), I’m not a fan of [name_m]Kaspar[/name_m]. [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_m]Gaspar[/name_m] all fine but the “K” just downgrades the name for me. [name_u]Sloan[/name_u] isn’t a fave of mine either. It just reminds me of [name_u]London[/name_u]'s [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] Square/Rangers and downer words like moan, groan, drone etc… However, I do confess that the two names do flow well together. I don’t have any problem about your girls combo. [name_f]Dominica[/name_f] [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] is lush, feminine and pretty.
What about [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]? K names are often seen as lower class, for whatever reasons, plus there will be the perception among many that you misspelled [name_m]Casper[/name_m].
[name_f]Dominica[/name_f] [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] is wonderful! What a classy, charming, unusual name.
I like [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], and [name_m]Kaspar[/name_m] [name_u]Sloan[/name_u] sounds nice. If you have a reason for the K spelling then great—it doesn’t bother me, I just get more excited by [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] than [name_m]Kaspar[/name_m].
The dominatrix association was pointed out to me by berries, but we decided to overlook it as we think it’s a nice strong name on its own, and we’re going to call her by the nn [name_f]Nika[/name_f] or [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] most of the time anyways.
As for [name_m]Kaspar[/name_m] with a K, DH wanted to spell it that way so it wouldn’t be so reminiscent of [name_m]Casper[/name_m] the Friendly Ghost. And he didn’t like all of the other [name_m]Cas[/name_m]- names I suggested, such as [name_m]Casimir[/name_m], [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], or [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. I try to avoid feeling like one of those “creative” name-misspellers by assuring myself that [name_m]Kaspar[/name_m] is a legit Scandinavian spelling variation, haha.
[name_u]Sloan[/name_u] was just a sound I like the idea of yelling out in a playground. Reminds me of a sparkly-eyed, mischievous dark-haired boy who’s always up to something.
