I promise this is my last time (maybe) posting for [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. I love other names but I always come back to this. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister said it has such a strong connection to the show (serial killer) that I shouldn’t use it.
I just love how uncommon it is yet it has history.
I think it’s a great name and would be adorable on a little boy! I think the connection to the show gives it a bit of an edgy vibe, but I don’t think people will always associate him with a fictional serial killer. The name existed before the show. I say go for it!
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is a cool TV show, but I don’t think people will remember it forever. People may ask you once or twice if you’ve named your son after the show if he’s born this year, but it won’t be long. Go for it!
The only connection to it I think of is [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]'s Laboratory, but I think it’s a nice clunky, yet cool name. I would find it so cool to meet a little boy named [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]!
I have never seen the show. I associate the name with a character from [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] Dessen’s This Lullaby. Maybe you should read that book or another book with a [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] character to give you another, positive association. For your sister, she probably only knows the name through the show, but I’m sure tons of people have never seen the show or have other, stronger associations with the name. As you said, the name was around way before the show!
I think of [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]'s lap first as well, and when people meet your lil dude, people will associate the name with him instead of the show
I don’t really know anyone who watches the show, and I don’t think of it when I hear it. There are so many actual criminals in the world with great names that you could never eliminate every bad reference.
From your posts, it sounds like you really love and connect with [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. I say go for it!!
