Well these are my latest obsessions. Thoughts? does anyone else like thses name?
[name]Gilda[/name]
I asked myself if i could ever like this name when i first saw it, nope. But now i think it’s the sweetest, simplest name, it bears yellow daisys but also serious and to the point.
[name]Cameo[/name]
I usually dont like o ending names for girls, too masculine, but this one has a feminine feel through a friendly, happy side.
[name]Saul[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name] & [name]Claude[/name] are favorite names and this one fits right in, i love its smooth sound.
[name]Elanore[/name]
Sophisticated and mannered.
Any genral thoughts on these names? what would you think if you met some one called one of these?
thanks
[name]Gilda[/name] - I’m not a fan at all, sorry. Anything that starts with ‘[name]Gil[/name]-’ makes me think of fish, including [name]Gilbert[/name], which I know is a nameberry favorite, but I just can’t get on board.
[name]Cameo[/name] - This is one of my guilty pleasure names… I love it! It’s the perfect blend of familiar sounds (like a smush of [name]Cam[/name]/[name]Camille[/name] and [name]Harlow[/name]/[name]Margo[/name]) but is still unique and unexpected. And it has this lovely vintage elegant feel, like a cameo brooch. If I ever met a little girl named [name]Cameo[/name] I would find it stunning.
[name]Saul[/name] - I love this too! First discovered ‘[name]Sol[/name]’ as a nickname for [name]Solomon[/name] which led me to plain old [name]Saul[/name], except there’s nothing plain about him. I love the smooth sound and that it’s an “undiscovered” Biblical name which means an agnostic such as myself could use it without feeling too weird about it. (:
[name]Elanore[/name] - I like [name]Eleanor[/name], but I don’t love it. This just looks like a mixed-up spelling of [name]Eleanor[/name] to me, and while I don’t think it’s horrible, I also would roll my eyes if a little girl told me “My name is [name]Elanore[/name], E-L-A-N-O-R-E.” Then again, these days you can’t assume anything is spelled the way it traditionally was, so I always ask for spellings even on the simplest names. So I guess it’s not that big a deal, I’m just a purist. (:
Absolutely love [name]Saul[/name]! It is such a fantastic name, lovely sound, totally ageless with a beautiful meaning and very uncommon - name jackpot in my opinion. I too am obsessed
[name]Gilda[/name] - Very sweet. Something about it makes me think of Germany in the 40s, in a perfectly good way.
[name]Cameo[/name] - I think this looks a little masculine for some reason. I do like it, and I would be totally impressed if I met a little girl named this, but I wouldn’t use it myself.
[name]Saul[/name] - I really like this one. Like others have said, it’s pretty much perfect, and I could totally see it blending in with more trendy names today. I also really like Saulo which might appeal to you. I first heard it last year in a book I was reading, and liked it ever since.
[name]Elanore[/name] - You’re pronouncing this [name]El[/name]-uh-nor, rather than [name]El[/name]-uh-nah, right? It’s just that I’ve only ever met girls named [name]Eleanor[/name] who pronounce it [name]El[/name]-uh-nah, but then again, I’ve only ever met girls with the [name]Eleanor[/name] spelling. It’s only on Nameberry which I started hearing it with the -nor ending… or maybe it’s just the American accent. I’m so confused! Anyway, it’s OK. Never been in love with it, but it’s a nice enough, respectable name.
[name]Cameo[/name] has been THE name for me, since finding out i was pregnant. I’ve only ever met one girl named [name]Cameo[/name] (she was about thirteen at the time, and i thought it was absolutely stunning), and have never read of it, nor heard it since. When i knew i was expecting, it just stuck, and then when i found out i was having a girl, i was ultimately decided! However, the baby’s father detests it, and all of my family members have passed negative comments, or refrained from judgement at all. I’m now 32 weeks, and have started to think perhaps it isn’t perfect, but like your reasons, i think it is classy and vintage, and apparently was a rare name used in Victorian times. Unfortunately there is a glamour model which has a website ranking pretty high up on google, called [name]Cameo[/name] [name]Rae[/name] (‘eyeful pleasures’…ICK! Not tasteful in the least), and as my daughters surname will be [name]Rae[/name]-Whitty, i think i’m put off simply because of this, and its terribly annoying! I’m thinking i need to team it with a very girly middle name to balance out the ‘masculine O’ endin, but wasn’t planning on a middle name due to the double barrel surname…But i think [name]Cameo[/name] is simply gorgeous for a female, and would love calling my little girl ‘[name]Cammie[/name]’ for short. /= Stuck!
[name]Gilda[/name] - it’s okay, but kind of sweet. It could have potential to grow on me, maybe.
[name]Cameo[/name] - I once knew a girl named [name]Cameo[/name], she was quite a character. (not in a good or bad way) Seems more like a fantasy name though.
[name]Saul[/name] - would be a nice nickname for [name]Solomon[/name], despite the slightly different spelling.
[name]Elanore[/name] - not my choice spelling (I prefer [name]Elinor[/name], really) but I can understand the appeal.
[name]Gilda[/name] - nms but I can see it’s appeal
[name]Cameo[/name]- I never thought of this as a name
[name]Saul[/name] - I know Im in the minority but the name has negative connotations to me. [name]One[/name] of the [name]Saul[/name]'s in the bible commits suicide after God leaves him and allows him to be filled with an “evil” spirit. The other’s name is changed to [name]Paul[/name] so basically his old name represented his sinful past and his new name represented his new life in [name]Christ[/name]. I think its usable for most people, Im probably just suffering from Catholic guilt lol.
[name]Elanore[/name] - love love love [name]Eleanor[/name] but not sure how I feel about this spelling, could grow on me but right now it looks misspelled.
Thanks everyone! Rebeccaroo, [name]Cameo[/name] does that doesnt it, just ‘sticks’ haha, such a pity coincedence about the web page, ick! maybe as a middle name seeing as your friends and family dont like it aswell, although who knows it might stick to them in time.
I never use to like the [name]Gil[/name] part in [name]Gilda[/name] aswell but thats disapeared now.
Im not religious so i dont have any bad connetations with [name]Saul[/name].
[name]Gilda[/name] - Reminds me of [name]Hilda[/name] or [name]Glinda[/name]? [name]Both[/name] witches, and so it makes me think of a witch, a good one though? NMS
[name]Cameo[/name] - I like this actually, but I wouldn’t use it myself
[name]Saul[/name] - I was brought up [name]Christian[/name], though I am not any longer, I still get the negative connotations of this name, and can’t get past them, either way it’s NMS.
[name]Elanore[/name] - Dislike the spelling, but love [name]Eleanor[/name]. Such a cute name! Reminds me of the chipmunk, always has always will.
[name]Gilda[/name] - I agree with kibby, it makes me think of witches.
[name]Cameo[/name] - It’s cute, but I can’t imagine meeting a 15-year-old [name]Cameo[/name].
[name]Saul[/name] - Nope. I don’t think I would ever use it, and it’s not my style.
[name]Elanore[/name] - I would automatically think her name was spelled [name]Eleanor[/name] or [name]Elinor[/name]. Kind of makes me think of Eeyore when it’s spelled that way.
