Laurence? in pink?

So Nameberry has [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] and [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] listed as unisex. What do the berries think? It DOES sound an awful lot like [name_f]Florence[/name_f] without the F…

I think [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] works well for a girl, but not [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]. I actually know a girl named [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] and she wears it well. [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is a cute nickname too. If [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] work, [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] should too. I like it especially if there are [name_m]French[/name_m] roots in the family

[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] seems more feminine that [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] because [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]ce contains [name_f]Lauren[/name_f].

Many names sounds really similar:

[name_u]Laurence[/name_u]/ [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]/ [name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_m]Earl[/name_m]/ [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

The female names on that list are always more popular or better received on Nameberry.

I prefer [name_f]Florence[/name_f] to [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] for a girl. I wouldn’t like to be named [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] or name a daughter that. Then again I wouldn’t like it for a son. Not my style. I do see what you’re saying though.

[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] is actually the [name_m]French[/name_m] girls version of the name. [name_m]Laurent[/name_m] is the [name_m]French[/name_m] boys version. I much prefer it on a boy due to the fact that my favourite actor was Sir [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] [name_m]Olivier[/name_m].

Though mainly associated with men in my life, I think it would and does work equally well for women. It is an established unisex name – not just a masculine name that could be used for a girl.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname possibility of [name_u]Wren[/name_u]/[name_u]Ren[/name_u] with this too. Though the full name is also lovely.

I think if you pronounce [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] lo-RAWNS instead of LAWR-ənts I think you are good. [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] is too masculine but [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] with the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation is very feminine to me.

[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] could work, to me it looks like a variant of [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]. [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] however, does not appeal to me for a girl

I think it sounds too masculine for a girl

To me they will always both be male names in English. Not just male names but strong masculine names.

[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] is only a girls name if pronounced lo-RONS.

[name_f]My[/name_f] mom’s name is [name_f]Laurette[/name_f], she is [name_m]French[/name_m] and [name_m]French[/name_m] Canadian. If I have children, the girl is going to be named [name_u]Laurence[/name_u], wren would be her nn. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom loves birds, it is similar to her name, and she thinks [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is cute.
I love that name for a girl. I also like it for a boy, but spelled [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u].

[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] is masculine to me, just like [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]. But I could see it on a girl too I guess.

[name_m]How[/name_m] charming! I adore the name [name_f]Laurette[/name_f]; what wonderful sentiment to back up a unique name choice. Thank you for sharing!

Agree with this, though the nickname [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] is always cute (a la [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women).

For a boy you could also spell it: [name_m]Lorenz[/name_m] or [name_m]Laurenz[/name_m].

It’s all boy to me, I’d double take if I saw it on a girl!

I know a couple [name_m]French[/name_m], female Laurences, but no males.
It’s not my style really, so I don’t have much of a preference if it’s on a girl or a boy, but I have seen it on girls. I tend to think of [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] and [name_m]Laurent[/name_m] as masculine.

I think it might work! I absolutely HATE most unisex names, but in this case, [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] reminds me of [name_f]Florence[/name_f] but also [name_f]Laura[/name_f] which is one of my all time favourite names. [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] with the ‘w’ I think looks too masculine, but the other way I actually kind of like. Would never use it myself though.

In the US, I couldn’t picture a girl with the name [name_u]Laurence[/name_u]. It’s way too similar to [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] for it to work here.

I know two men named [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] so I see it on the blue side. But I can see where one could see it on a girl because the close [name_f]Florence[/name_f] association.
