Lavinia for Laverne?

[name_f]My[/name_f] late grandmother’s name was [name_f]Laverne[/name_f]. She was an amazing woman, and I might like to honor her when I eventually have a daughter. However, I’ve never been fond of her name. I was wondering if [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] would be a good tribute? It doesn’t have the same root as [name_f]Laverne[/name_f] (which means “springlike”), but I thought it sounded similar enough. What are your thoughts?

I think [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is a perfect honorary name. It sounds quite similar, while still having its own root- a lovely choice.

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is a great alternative to [name_f]Laverne[/name_f]. I have to admit , I have a slightly negative association w/[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], as it was the name of a spoiled, bratty Victorian child in a movie I saw, but I doubt anyone else would make that connection.

It’s a perfect namesake, and very pretty too, not a stretch at all. I love the nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f].

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to thank all of you for your input! I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t too much of a stretch.

I think using another Lav- name is a fine way to honor her. You could also look for names with a similar meaning. The only one i know off the top of my head is [name_f]Cerelia[/name_f].
