Lavinia?

What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]? She would be joining big sister [name_f]Estella[/name_f].

I can see the appeal and it goes with [name_f]Estella[/name_f]
However it just makes me think of ‘the lav’ as in the toilet.

I think it’s lovely.

Absolutely stunning choice. [name_f]Estella[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] are perfect together.

I’ll second the idea that [name_f]Estella[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] sound wonderful together! However, just so that you’re aware of the name’s history, you might want to look at [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s [name_m]Titus[/name_m] Andronicus. (I equate [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] with naming a daughter something like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f].)

I’m in the minority that thinks [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] too strong/severe to pair with [name_f]Estella[/name_f]. It flows with [name_f]Estella[/name_f], but you’ll find that most names will flow with [name_f]Estella[/name_f] because it’s so gentle and flowing itself. That said, I see the appeal, I like [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]! My favourite names with [name_f]Estella[/name_f] are [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] (carol-EEN-a), [name_f]Carina[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] and [name_f]Violetta[/name_f].

[name_f]Estella[/name_f] and [name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f] and [name_f]Annetta[/name_f]/[name_f]Annette[/name_f]

I love it and they work well together.

I have had [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] on my list for years (as a sister for [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]). I think it is a stunning, magical name and I love the idea of [name_u]Love[/name_u]/[name_f]Lovie[/name_f] as a nickname. It would be higher on my list if not for [name_m]Titus[/name_m] Andronicus.

I love [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] (the 4 syllable prn.) but I get different vibes from both names, [name_f]Estella[/name_f] is elegant, aristocratic and calm, while [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is quirky, still elegant and does have something very 1910s/20s about it, [name_f]Estella[/name_f], while also a vintage name, I feel has come back already.
I can definitely see them as sisters but they’re not two names I’d pair as sisters.

[name_f]Estella[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] make a lovely sibset! Both are feminine, elaborate but delicate names with a vintage feel.

I wouldn’t worry about the [name_m]Titus[/name_m] Andronicus reference- it’s not a very well-known play and most people who aren’t into literature would probably never have heard of the character [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f].

I love it! My friend is called [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] and always goes by [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u]. I’ve always thought it to be a very beautiful, sophisticated name.

I think it’s a perfect sibling name to [name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is gorgeous

[name_f]Estella[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] sound perfect together, in fact, I just met a baby [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] on the subway yesterday - gorgeous! I think you should go for it!

[name_f]Estella[/name_f] & [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] are perfect together!

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] was used in the book [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] Tremain, an independent (for the 18th century at least) beautiful woman. I loved this name since I read that book in fifth grade, but unfortunately it’s the name of an ex-gf for my DH, so it’s off the table.

Thanks for all the replies! I love all the name suggestions, but unfortunately the hubby has turned down most everything. [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is one of the few names we agree upon and the one he’s most passionate about. I’m not too concerned with the literary references. I don’t mind a tragic character. [name_f]Estella[/name_f] isn’t the most emotionally sound person in Great Expectations, but no one has ever brought up the connection with the book and that’s where we got her name. Now we just need a middle name for [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]…
