Leah?

SO I was thinking last night how pretty the name [name]Leah[/name] is. Then I looked up the meaning: “weary” though after further research, found some who claim it also means delicate, or ruler…
just wondering if the meaning of a name was something you disliked, would that completely take it off your list?

For me, personally, the meaning of a name is important. I don’t like [name]Leah[/name] because of its meaning and I just find the sound rather plain.

For me, it’s about the sound, substance and feel of a name. [name]Delilah[/name], one of my favourite names, means ‘weak, languishing’ and has a negative Biblical image, but I don’t care about either of those things. I just think the name is really pretty. When an employer is going through job applications, s/he’s not going to think, ‘This person is called [name]Caleb[/name]!’ googles [name]Caleb[/name] ‘It means dog! We shouldn’t hire him!’

I won’t lie - sometimes the meaning will change my opinion of the name for the better. [name]Araceli[/name] means ‘altar of the sky’, and I think that’s a really nice image. I also love the names [name]Liberty[/name] and [name]Mercy[/name] because of their meanings.

I don’t think it matters to most people. [name]Madison[/name] means ‘son of [name]Maud[/name]’, and look at how many girls there are called [name]Madison[/name].

I don’t care very much about the meaning of a name. I think it’s just a bonus if the meaning is particularly nice, but I wouldn’t choose a name according to its meaning. Like amberdaydream said, [name]Delilah[/name] is one of my favourites and the meaning and negative biblical connotations would never stop me from using it

Me too. I also consider a nice meaning a bonus, its definitely not the most important part of choosing a name for me.

Meaning is really important for me. I love [name]Leah[/name]/[name]Lia[/name] but struggle with the meaning. I wonder if there is an alternative meaning…I know there is debate about the meaning of [name]Mary[/name]. I love it, but it means bitterness. Possible, this is the case for [name]Leah[/name] as well.
