Leda vs Lida

Thouhgts on Leda/Lida (lee-duh), and how would you spell it? We are personally leaning towards Leda, but feel like Lida might be more instinctive to most for pronunciation/spelling (Leda could get Lay-duh as a pronunciation).

We already have two sons named Auryn and Elan.

Id say [name_f]Lyda[/name_f] or at least [name_f]Lida[/name_f] because I’d assume that [name_f]Leda[/name_f] was leh-da

I would go with [name_f]Lida[/name_f] if you don’t want your daughter to constantly correct people on the pronunciation of her name. I do like the look of [name_f]Leda[/name_f], and the lay-da pronunciation, though.

I’ve seen [name_f]Lida[/name_f] pronounced with a long I, rhyming with [name_f]Ida[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Leta[/name_f] or [name_f]Lita[/name_f]?

I’d pronounce [name_f]Leda[/name_f] like Leh-duh, and [name_f]Lida[/name_f] like Lie-duh. For [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-duh I’d go for Leeda

[name_f]Leda[/name_f] does look prettier written down though

I think any of the proposed spellings are fine - I personally like the look of [name_f]Leda[/name_f]. My daughters nickname has multiple accepted spellings and it’s never been an issue to say “ee-vee, spelled [name_f]Evie[/name_f]” and thats that. It’s never been a big issue and I suspect [name_f]Leda[/name_f], however you choose to spell it, would be the same.

I say [name_f]Leda[/name_f] as [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-duh, so I’d go [name_f]Lida[/name_f].

I think you might get pronunciation issues either way ([name_f]Leda[/name_f] as Leh-da and [name_f]Lida[/name_f] with the long i), so I’d say just go with whichever one you prefer. Personally, I like [name_f]Leda[/name_f].

Late to the conversation…

I like [name_f]Leda[/name_f] - I have had some people ask how to say it & some Europeans do say it as Leh-duh.

We need more [name_f]Leda[/name_f]'s

It’s ambiguous either way.

A friend of mine named her baby [name_f]Lydda[/name_f] after a poet.

Definitely [name_f]Leda[/name_f]

I don’t see any problem with the spelling vs sound

[name_f]Leda[/name_f] is a fairly well known mythological character so a lot of people should know the name
