I just saw about a little boy named Ledge and was wondering what everyone’s thoughts were. Is it too out there? does it work? Personally the first time I heard it I was surprised but really with its short and accessible sounds it seemed to work for me. Not necessarily what I would choose but it didn’t seem strange to hear it when they called for him etc.
Not too keen on Ledge.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] makes me think of jumping off a bridge/ledge, to be honest.
I really like it! I think it is strong and masculine sounding and uncommon, but easy to say and spell. I would consider it very useable.
It gives off a similar vibe to something like [name_m]Ridge[/name_m], [name_m]Heath[/name_m], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Reeve[/name_u] etc to me. Not my choice but I think it’s usable though I can also imagine people saying things like ‘what a ledge’ - not really the worst thing but idk if that would annoy me
It’s definitely usable, but I can’t say I’m keen myself as it just sounds like a random and not particularly meaningful word. In fact, the word ledge connotes falling, narrowness, instability and the end (before a great drop), so it’s not particularly positive (though seeing it from another angle could connote safety and ‘a step up’, so I guess it depends on perspective). It also seems somewhat abrupt.
I don’t mind [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] so much - its etymological meaning, “people-spear”, brings to mind an ancient tribe providing for one another deep within a forest, so that’s some interesting imagery. It also fits in well with the popular surnames-as-first-names trend.
I’m not a fan. Here in the U.K., ledge is often used, particularly by boys 13-early twenties, as an abbreviation of legend. “You’re a ledge!” Sort of thing.
