Legitha and Littlefoot?

I recently began working in a school where I have met several children with unique names, but I was quite shocked, to say the least, to meet a little girl named Legitha. Her mother calls her Legsi :open_mouth: I’m not usually one to judge names, but this one has come as quite a shock. To top it all off, the woman is expecting a baby and says that if she has a little boy, he shall be named “Littlefoot” after The [name_m]Land[/name_m] Before Time and if it is a little girl Ducki (with an I) … I thought she was joking and made a lighthearted joke and she became offended and said “at least I’m not pushing out a [name_m]Peter[/name_m] or a [name_f]Susan[/name_f]”. I guess I’m just a little gob snacked, ha. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you react to this and is it innaproriate to laugh at someone else’s name choice? Xx

I don’t mean to be rude but it would be my first reaction to laugh… I’m all for naming your kids unusual and unused names but you also have to think of how that name would age too and consider the child’s feelings towards it. I was never a fan of The [name_m]Land[/name_m] Before Time anyways so… lol

I find names like this to be silly and it seems like people do it more so for shock value rather than their actual love for the name. I can’t imagine having to introduce myself at a job interview as Littlefoot, Ducki, or Legsi. I dont think people understand that having a uniquely named child doesn’t make them any more/less unique, and if it does it typically isn’t for a good reason.
