Leia - forever a Star Wars name?

I [name]LOVE[/name] the sound and look of [name]Leia[/name] (pronounced lay-uh) but I’m afraid everyone immediately thinks of [name]Star[/name] Wars when they see it (which I don’t care for). What do you think? And do you think it would be misspelled/mispronounced all the time? Thanks for the feedback

I have a woman who always calls into work named [name]Leah[/name], but she pronounces it like you pronounce [name]Leia[/name]. I think mispronunciation is inevitable with names like [name]Leah[/name], [name]Lea[/name], [name]Leia[/name], [name]Leila[/name], etc. because of the many ways the combinations of vowel sounds can be pronounced.

You don’t care for [name]Star[/name] Wars, or for people thinking you named her for awesome [name]Princess[/name] [name]Leia[/name]? Either way, if the answer to either is yes, you should probably stay away from it. I think most people will think [name]Princess[/name] [name]Leia[/name]. It is similar to [name]Leah[/name]/[name]Lea[/name]/[name]Lia[/name] though… I adore [name]Star[/name] Wars so I’d think it would be fantastic to meet a little [name]Leia[/name].

Yep, [name]Star[/name] Wars all the way. I agree it’s a beautiful name though!

I might think of the connection to [name]Star[/name] Wars if I heard that name, but I wouldn’t think that it was necessarily intentional. I think it’s a lovely name and the [name]Star[/name] Wars connection (or the pronunciation) wouldn’t deter me from using it.

My best friend growing up was named [name]Leia[/name]. Although after some teasing when it was pronounced “lay uh” As in boys saying “I want to ‘lay uh’ … [last name]” She started going by “[name]Lee[/name]-ah” as in [name]Leah[/name].

She’s 25 now. And although the original intention was due to [name]Star[/name] Wars since her dad was a huge fan. For me since knowing her growing up I don’t immediately think of [name]Star[/name] Wars because she’s made the name her own.
