Could Leigham work as a feminine spelling for [name_m]Liam[/name_m]?
Too out there?
Any other spellings for [name_m]Liam[/name_m] that could work for a girl?

I think it would be mispronounced often. If you’re set on using it, I would stick with [name_m]Liam[/name_m].
What about [name_f]Leah[/name_f]?
I’m not a fan. It would get misspelled and mispronounced a lot, and I think she’d still have to go through the trouble of everyone thinking she’s male since [name_m]Liam[/name_m] is incredibly popular on boys.
What about [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Liane[/name_f], [name_f]Liana[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]?
If you’re going to cross genders with a name, by all means, go for it, but please stick to [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. Leigham just looks really confusing - I spent a good minute or two trying to figure out if you’d spelled Leighann wrong, or if you’d actually asked about [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]-ham.
Another good alternative might be [name_u]Leighton[/name_u].
I like it and am actually surprised we haven’t seen this much more given the popularity of [name_m]Liam[/name_m] for little boys. I think this is the best alternative spelling, for sure. I knew exactly what you were getting at when I read the title.
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] is a boys name. There are plenty of beautiful girls names out there you can use. Leigham just looks made up imo.
I don’t hate [name_m]Liam[/name_m] on a girl, but I would stick to the [name_m]Liam[/name_m] spelling. I would suggest a feminine middle.

What about Liamie instead? I can’t not see the word ham in Leigham.
Out loud, it’s still [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. It’s still the most popular boys’ name in the country. It’s still not feminine. Tbh, I find it incredibly unimaginative.
This isn’t like [name_u]Noah[/name_u] where [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is a legitimate feminine name. This is [name_m]Liam[/name_m], the Irish form of [name_m]William[/name_m]. It sounds super ridiculous on a girl imo.
I think if it’s going to be pronounced “[name_m]Liam[/name_m]” you should just use that spelling.
The point would be to feminize [name_m]William[/name_m]. My dad was [name_m]William[/name_m], and he just died very suddenly at 60. My husband also happens to be [name_m]William[/name_m], so “[name_f]Willow[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Willa[/name_f]”, “Wilelmina” are out. And it’s customary in my faith to name after the most recently deceased. Thus [name_m]Liam[/name_m] for a girl. I don’t think it’s ridiculous?
What about the name [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] (lay-ton) it’s a nice alternative.
I would not have guessed it was pronounced the same as [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. It’s just not intuitive. I’m pretty good with that kind of thing and my brain automatically said “lay-ham” I’m not a fan of [name_m]Liam[/name_m] for a girl at all, personally,
I know you said “will” names are out…but a common nickname for [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is [name_f]Mina[/name_f]. You could honor [name_m]William[/name_m] with [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Mina[/name_f]. That way it’s not confusing. Maybe someone else suggested it…sorry if it was already said!
Otherwise…I don’t know. There isn’t really another way to honor [name_m]William[/name_m] unless you’re open to going with names that have a similar meaning and don’t mind it being a totally different name?
You could go with [name_u]Billie[/name_u], it’s gender neutral and a nickname of [name_m]William[/name_m]. [name_f]Bellina[/name_f] or [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] could work as a long form. Or once again, [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u].
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] is a boy’s name. There is no way you can misspell it that will transform it into a girl’s name. You’ll just saddle your poor kid with a lifelong burden.
ETA: Also, I would instinctively pronounce this “Lee-HAM.”
I’ve seen your post on the boy forums, and you mentioned the special connection with your dad’s name to wolf… what about [name_u]Channing[/name_u]? It means “wolf cub” … there’s also [name_f]Lupe[/name_f] (“wolf”) and [name_m]Conall[/name_m] (“strong as a wolf”).
I would stick to the [name_m]Liam[/name_m] spelling personally just to avoid confusion. People misspell my own name a lot and it’s pretty annoying to have to correct it so often. That’s why I tend to advocate for common spellings.
If you don’t want to feminize the name, just name her [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. If you want a feminine honor name, why not [name_f]Lia[/name_f]? Same letters, not masculine. Not confusing.
Ew. No. It would create nothing but issues regarding pronunciation and spelling. I didn’t know this was supposed to be [name_m]Liam[/name_m] until I read your post.
Why not go with [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]?
My first thoughts were leg-ham. Then lay-em. Why not just name males [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and females something else. I’m glad I was born (and named) when I was.
