I really like [name_u]Leland[/name_u] but I love [name_m]Levi[/name_m], so my vote went with [name_m]Levi[/name_m]. [name_u]Leland[/name_u] is a family name though and I am all for honoring and using names that have special family meaning. Honestly, you can not loose with either name. They are both very handsome.
thank you for the input!! I love both names!
I happen to prefer the name [name_m]Levi[/name_m] (though I like both names) but with your surname I think [name_u]Leland[/name_u] works better (even though I’m not a fan of [name_u]Lee[/name_u] as a nickname with this name-that’s just me)
Plus, I do agree with you that it would be a little weird using [name_m]Levi[/name_m] with you being [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] and if you know many Christians, they’d probably pick up on it and make the connection. I feel like you’d have a lot of questions about it.
[name_u]Leland[/name_u] is my great-grandfather’s name. I love that name, with [name_u]Lee[/name_u] as a nickname. My oldest son is [name_m]Liam[/name_m], and we didn’t even think of doing [name_u]Leland[/name_u] instead. Now I wish we had considered [name_u]Leland[/name_u] because the name has really grown on me. Good luck!
Our first is named [name_m]Levi[/name_m], we’re not Jewish, and it works fine. Actually, it reminds us all that we’re all in this together. Besides, as I recall, He was of that tribe, too. Furthermore, his name still sounds great, we love it, and so does everyone else. And, we all have positive connotations to it, regardless of the religious implications.
I don’t like [name_u]Leland[/name_u] all too much, when we thought of names, they had to have some reference in the world, and how many “[name_u]Leland[/name_u]'s” do you know? We all like to be original, but taken too far, I think it begins to be not so much a markof distinction, but one of weirdness…of us as parents, that is…which can get in the way of the kid, who will forever have to hear that name associated with him.
I suppose I have a personal reaction to a name I’ve selected…and love. Maybe one of us should rethink the thought behind it.
I adore both names, but I think [name_u]Leland[/name_u] goes best with your last name.
Thank you. My grandfather went by [name_u]Lee[/name_u], but I always loved it when I heard one of his siblings refer to him by his full name, [name_u]Leland[/name_u]. It would be a great way to honor my mom and her family.
Thank you, I like the meaning of [name_m]Levi[/name_m], too! My husband adores this name. I have only ever known 2 Levis. I have positive associations with these people, but I have only ever known one [name_u]Leland[/name_u], my grandfather. I am not trying to be original, I am trying to honor a family member whose name I like very much. I am not sure what you meant by “one of us should rethink the thought behind it” Would you like to clarify? thanks.
I think she was saying that for her, [name_u]Leland[/name_u] was too ‘random’ of a name without having any other familiarity with the name? But for you, op, the name [name_u]Leland[/name_u] would certainly have that previous association, so that wouldn’t be a consideration. I’m not sure.
I think both are great and would work well. I’m marginally partial to [name_u]Leland[/name_u] for what it’s worth. Good luck!
I prefer [name_u]Leland[/name_u] because i like the additional nn of [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and the name seems more substantial to me. Also the brand association is to strong to me.
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] has more personality, so I went with that one.
I think [name_u]Leland[/name_u] is too old fashioned, and I picture a nerd with that name… I really like [name_m]Levi[/name_m] though!
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] Gross is too similar to jean brand [name_m]Levi[/name_m] Strauss. I think [name_u]Leland[/name_u] flows better with your surname.
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]'s strong, classic, cool. [name_u]Leland[/name_u] put me in mind of [name_f]Judy[/name_f] [name_f]Garland[/name_f] in The [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m]. [name_m]Ozias[/name_m] is also cute…anything but [name_u]Leland[/name_u].
I’m really not a fan of [name_m]Levi[/name_m] Gross at all. It sounds very Jewish to me but don’t get me wrong, NOTHING wrong with being Jewish. Gross means “big” in [name_m]German[/name_m], and [name_m]Saxon[/name_m] surnames are very common for Hasidic Jews to have. Also, [name_m]Levi[/name_m] Gross just sounds like big [name_m]Levi[/name_m]'s jeans to me but I’m weird lol. I think [name_m]Levi[/name_m] works well with Scandinavian/Anglo last names like [name_m]Johnson[/name_m], [name_m]Watson[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m], etc.
I much prefer [name_u]Leland[/name_u] Gross - just flows so much better. I don’t find [name_u]Leland[/name_u] old-fashioned at all but unique and honors your grandfather. In fact, I find [name_m]Levi[/name_m] much more old-fashioned - I just imagine an older Jewish gentleman with a yamaka on. Maybe I’ve just seen/met too many here in the NYC area.
Interesting… Thanks for the input! I don’t know if I will be able to convince my husband otherwise- He is obsessed with [name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_u]Walker[/name_u] Gross!!
