I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the history, origins, meaning of this name? I’ve been told it is an established name but I haven’t been able to find any concrete evidence that this is so. And that it might be an old Quebec name.
I really like the name, the sound and how it looks–it feels more substantial than [name]Liliana[/name] (a similar name). So it would be nice to find that it is a real name.
Hmm. I’m familiar with [name]Lelia[/name] ([name]LAY[/name]-lee-ah), which according to some of the more reputable sites, is an Italian form of [name]Laelia[/name], an old [name]Roman[/name] name (I think!). Maybe Leliana is an elaboration of that?
I’ve tried doing a bit of research, but the only thing I found hinted that it might be French, although everything I know about French culture and names suggests otherwise! In general, a French name would end in -iane, not -iana (like [name]Liliane[/name], [name]Ariane[/name], Briane, [name]Juliane[/name], etc. as opposed to [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Ariana[/name], [name]Briana[/name], [name]Juliana[/name], etc.!).
ETA: The strongest tie to it is that it was used in a RPG (from what I can tell) called Dragon’s Age, where there is a Leliana (Leliana | Dragon Age Wiki | Fandom). I haven’t really been able to find out much past that, because it’s kind of everywhere, haha.
