Lemoine as a first name?

Lemoine is an important last name for my family, so it has a lot of meaning for me. I’m toying with the idea of using it as a first name for a baby boy. Nickname would be [name_m]Lem[/name_m].

I like unusual names but I’m worried this is a bit too out there. Would love some thoughts.

How is it pronounced?

i can’t help but read it as “the monk” in french; it also reminds me of Lemon. i think that it would be mispronounced. i don’t love it as a first name; i could see it as a middle, though! what about something like Lemuel?

[name_m]Ah[/name_m] one if the issues I’m worried about…

Luh-moin (rhymes with coin)

I’m aware of the proper [name_u]French[/name_u] pronunciation (and original old [name_u]French[/name_u] spelling) but this is the way this last name is pronounced by everyone I know.

Nickname [name_m]Lem[/name_m] (pronounced like first syllable if lemon) would be frequently used.

One syllable last name.

I appreciate the suggestion! I think I would go for just naming the baby [name_m]Lem[/name_m] over [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m], as the name [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m] has no significance to me. I like the meaning of the name and the nickname, but like I said I know it’s a bit out there as a first name.

I personally like it , but I have problems interpreting the right pronunciation , I prefer [name_u]Lemon[/name_u].

Oh, wow! I love this name! It is the name of a famous lilac grower. The Lemoine lilacs are amazing.

I love it!!!

I believe this one would just come across as odd to many people. The look and sound of it is very similar to lemon.
I don’t find it very appealing, sorry.

I love it! It’s so unexpected and spunky. I also love the potential nicknames ! [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]Lee[/name_u] , [name_m]Lem[/name_m], [name_m]Len[/name_m], [name_u]Moe[/name_u]
