Lena Kara? Too much?

We’re pretty set on the first name [name_f]Lena[/name_f] pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nuh and I’ve always loved the name [name_f]Kara[/name_f] pronounced Car-uh as it has a lot of special meaning for me. I’m just not sure about [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and [name_f]Kara[/name_f] together as they both end in A with the same sound. What do you think? Any other suggestions? Would like something nature related or similar to [name_f]Kara[/name_f]. I also like M names as they have a speical meaning but none of the popular ones. What about [name_m]Lenan[/name_m] [name_f]Kara[/name_f]? But she’s going to be called [name_f]Lena[/name_f] so I don’t see the point in naming her something different. Would love some thoughts on [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and the pronunciation in general as well, is it too plain? Would it be pronounced right in the U.S. I mostly want to know what comes to mind and if [name_f]Lena[/name_f] sounds too basic. Thanks!!

Save [name_f]Kara[/name_f] for another child. It’s too much together on one kid but sounds like a nice sibling pair. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Karlena[/name_f] would be the compromise name if you intend to only have one child though.

I love the name [name_f]Lena[/name_f]! I don’t think it’s plain, in fact it’s pretty and uncommon (where I am anyway).
I think [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Kara[/name_f] is too much together though. I agree with the pp that if you love [name_f]Kara[/name_f], keep it for another child. I’d look at a completely different middle name for [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. Any family names that you can use?

I don’t mind two names ending in “a” but I think the fact that they are both two syllables gives a kind of sing-songy feel. I would save [name_f]Kara[/name_f] or use a variation.

[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Karissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] (or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]), otherwise [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] etc. I think [name_f]Kara[/name_f] overpowers [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as a middle name. Is [name_f]Kara[/name_f] a first name option instead for this child -eg [name_f]Kara[/name_f] [name_f]Lenore[/name_f]?

[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] would work too, though I think the suggestion of [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] is best.

I agree with PPs that [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Kara[/name_f] doesn’t really work. It’s too singsongy with both being two syllables, the first stressed, and both ending in A. They’d be lovely names for sisters though!

I was also going to suggest [name_f]Karlena[/name_f], and you could call her [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and/or [name_f]Kara[/name_f] as nicknames so you’d get both the names you liked in one.

It is sing songy however how often do you really say a full name out loud? If the meaning is really that important to you I think it could work.

If the matchy sounds really bothers you I think [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] is a good option I would also suggest [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Karie[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Carissa[/name_f], & [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]

I’m third-ing or fourth-ing [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f], and agreeing that [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Kara[/name_f] a little singsongy together. Does that mean it actually is too much? I mean, it just depends on your taste. There are tons of people with singsongy names in the world, and as a middle name, most people won’t ever hear the two together anyway. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Kara[/name_f] isn’t as bad as, say, [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] or [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Katy[/name_f] or something. What about [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]? Or, you could spell it [name_f]Karaline[/name_f] probably. [name_f]Carol[/name_f], [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] ([name_u]Karol[/name_u], [name_f]Karolyn[/name_f]) are also similar.

I agree that [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Kara[/name_f] doesn’t quite work. Have you considered using a second middle to give them some distance? If you used an M name that would give even more significance to your daughter’s name. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Kara[/name_f] could work well.

Alternatively, [name_f]Kara[/name_f] [name_f]Lena[/name_f] has less of a sing-song feel. If you put the names together as [name_f]Kara[/name_f]-[name_f]Lena[/name_f] or Karalena you could still call your daughter [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as a nickname. I realize however that in the US [name_f]Kara[/name_f] could be mispronounced as “keer-uh”.

Good luck! You’ve got lots of options

I like the sound of the names together! Regardless, I think choosing a meaningful name is more important than flow, especially when talking about first and middle names.

When I saw the title, my first thought was “they must be talking about [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_m]Luthor[/name_m] and [name_f]Kara[/name_f] Zor-[name_f]El[/name_f] / Denvers”. :stuck_out_tongue:
The combo’s flow is good enough, go for it.

They were my first thought too! I don’t think the flow is the best, but not the worst either. It’s definitely usable.

I don’t mind names that rhyme so I personally like the name [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Kara[/name_f].

Thanks! Unfortunately we will only have one child so it’s now or never!

Thanks! Pretty and uncommon is exactly what I was going for. No family names that I like  [name_f]Lena[/name_f] will actually be named after a family member’s middle name “[name_u]Lee[/name_u]”

I feel the same, they’re very similar. Thanks for the suggestions!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestions! Thank you! I was actually playing around with [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] as well but was sad to not have the [name_f]Kara[/name_f]. Thanks again!

Not the best together to many repeating sounds.

I’ve always pronounced [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as [name_f]Lenna[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Lina[/name_f], however either way I still think the combo is a bit rhymey. I also think [name_f]Kara[/name_f] is a little plain next to exotic [name_f]Lena[/name_f].

As sisters though, [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and [name_f]Kara[/name_f] would be great.

What about adding another middle name, perhaps between the two? [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [middle] [name_f]Kara[/name_f]? You could use something longer to balance it out.
