Lena

I love the name [name]Lena[/name] ([name]LEE[/name]-na) but many people both on here and in my family. But then today I found the name [name]Lina[/name] (same pronouncation) so, what do you think is better: [name]Lena[/name] or [name]Lina[/name]? Which is easier to know from the start that it is pronounced [name]LEE[/name]-na?

While both can be [name]LEE[/name]-na, [name]Lina[/name] is almost always [name]LEE[/name]-NA while [name]Lena[/name] has a few common pronunciations. I really like both spellings, but if you are looking for ease, I would recommend [name]Lina[/name].

I second [name]Lina[/name] as well, if you want the pronunciation to be obviously [name]LEE[/name]-na.

I prefer [name]Lena[/name] and it seems the most intuitive to me. [name]Lina[/name] could be Lye-na. I don’t really know how else [name]Lena[/name] could be pronounced, but maybe that’s just because I’m more familiar with that one as several members of my extended family use it as a nn.

[name]Lina[/name] is more straight forward in pronunciation, but I think [name]Lena[/name] looks nicer.

Personally I prefer the [name]Lena[/name] spelling, but if you only want it pronounced (lee-na) then [name]Lina[/name] might be the better option. Though I have heard some silly people pronounce [name]Lina[/name] as ([name]Line[/name]-ah) :frowning:

I have the most horrible time pronouncing words and names, so I thought [name]Lena[/name] was [name]Lay[/name]-nuh the first time I read it, probably because of me pronouncing [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Elena[/name] with the -layna ending. When I read [name]Lina[/name] in a book series, I thought it was [name]Line[/name]-uh.

But, you should probably go with [name]Lina[/name] for a more straight forward pronounciation.

I prefer the look of [name]Lena[/name] and suspect either would occasionally get messed up. I prefer to keep the i to [name]Lita[/name].

Weirdly, I love [name]Lena[/name] and [name]Lita[/name], but not [name]Lina[/name] or [name]Leta[/name].

I love the name and prefer it spelled [name]Lena[/name].

I think it’s great name (and I might go put it on my list right now) and I much prefer [name]Lena[/name] to [name]Lina[/name]. I’d automatically say [name]Lena[/name] as [name]LEE[/name]-na and [name]Lina[/name] as LIE-na, so maybe I’m just outside of the norm. [name]Even[/name] with the spelling/pronunciation issues I’d still go with [name]Lena[/name], because it’s so short that it’s easy enough to say, “E instead of I.”

I think [name]Lena[/name] is gorgeous and is more pleasing to the eye. [name]Lina[/name] looks incomplete and some people would say Lye na or [name]Lynn[/name] a.
