This is my first time posting (I usually just comment)! I have two boys, [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m], and hope to be trying for number #3 (with any luck a girl) in 2018.
We love the name [name_f]Kate[/name_f] but because we already have a [name_m]Leo[/name_m] are worried about using it. Does it make anyone think [name_f]Winslet[/name_f] and DiCaprio or Titanic?
I love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] so much I may use it regardless but I really want to hear what you think. I’m hoping having [name_u]Finn[/name_u] in the mix so it’s not just the two of the them will soften this association a bit.
When I read the title, I did realize that I knew the combo of [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] from somewhere, but it took me a minute to put it together. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a big deal, especially not with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] in the mix.
For what it’s worth, I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] sounds lovely with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. You could consider the [name_f]Cate[/name_f] spelling, if you want to lessen the association, though that will obviously only work on paper and not in conversations.
I instantly thought of the DiCaprio/[name_f]Winslet[/name_f]/Titanic thing, but I will say that [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is less obvious than if you were to have a [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. While I think that the movie will always have some sort of notoriety, I think that the fact that the movie was released so long ago also helps your case here. Besides, [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is beautiful and fits very well with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]
I didn’t think of Titanic, but I did think of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]. I’ve never even seen the movie, I just have heard of it I guess. But it isn’t an association that I would try to avoid, I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is great!
@namergirl3 and @shalexis Thank you both. Maybe I should just embrace the association! I hadn’t even thought about [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m].
I didn’t think of Titanic at all and instead thought of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] & [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] which is one of my all-time favorite romantic movies. I don’t think that’s negative in any way and shouldn’t ever deter you from giving your daughter a name you love. Also, with brother [name_u]Finn[/name_u] I don’t think I would ever otherwise make that connection.
If I were in your shoes, the combo would give me pause. But ultimately, they are two classic names that existed long before the movie and will continue long after. And, as the pp said, kate+leo is more obscure to titanic than jack+rose would be.
It took me a second to remember why those names seemed familiar, but I think it’s a fading connection and one that might never occur with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]'s name in the mix.
I love [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] together! It did sound familiar, but even after you point it out, the association certainly isn’t very strong for me, and I can’t bring myself to think “too much Titanic” even after reading this thread. [name_f]Kate[/name_f]'s a lovely name, and [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is brilliant together!
This is exactly what I was going to say! I also think that by the time they are at school, it is not something that will be well-known with other children.
My name is [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and the dog I’ve had for 12 years is [name_m]Leo[/name_m], I have never noticed the association and no one has ever mentioned it to me either so I think you’re safe.
i think its gorgeous, i didnt think of it until you said it. you might get a few comments but i wouldn’t avoid using [name_f]Kate[/name_f] just because of that
Thank you so much for commenting. I’m relieved that the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I’d hoped it would be fine because of [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and that the movie is already 20 years old, but wasn’t sure if that was only wishful thinking.
