My super short list for a boy has been whittled down to [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Milo[/name]. I still have [name]Dean[/name] and [name]Lars[/name] on my reserve list.
What do you think of these names? What do they say to you on there own and as a sibling to [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name]? [name]Do[/name] they stand up to the strength of [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name]?
My DH has always thought that [name]Leo[/name] (even though it means [name]Lion[/name]) is too soft next to [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name]. And as much as I love the name, it is one I do tend to hear every now and then. Now, [name]Milo[/name] on the other hand has a similar sound to [name]Leo[/name], but does it stand a little stronger on its own? It has a meaning and origin that works well with [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name] and I think it sounds nice on its own. It also has the familiar sound of [name]Leo[/name] without being as popular. We would of course pair it with a traditional middle name. Like: [name]Victor[/name], [name]Francis[/name], [name]John[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], or [name]Laurence[/name]/[name]Lawrence[/name].
I love both of those names, and they would be on my list if our last name didn’t end with an “o” sound. I think [name]Leo[/name] is very strong & masculine, while [name]Milo[/name] is a little softer to me, but that’s just my opinion. I don’t think you could go wrong with either, and I don’t have a preference of one over the other in connection with [name]Rex[/name] & [name]Troy[/name].
Tough choice! I think either one works, but I prefer [name]Milo[/name]. [name]Dean[/name] and [name]Lars[/name] are great too! I think my favorite threesome is [name]Rex[/name], [name]Troy[/name] and [name]Dean[/name].
I love [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Milo[/name] and could user either
However, I also think [name]Leo[/name] is stronger than [name]Milo[/name] but both sound rather soft next to [name]Rex[/name] (r and x hard sounds) and [name]Troy[/name] (Tr hard sound). Of your choices listed here, I think [name]Leo[/name] is my favorite name on its own but [name]Dean[/name] works best with [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name].
I think [name]Leo[/name] is the better choice. In my mind, [name]Leo[/name] transitions from cute toddler to adult corporate lawyer much better than [name]Milo[/name]. If I’m being perfectly honest, [name]Milo[/name] sounds more like the name of a pet than the name of a strong, independent man (who you’re son will hopefully grow up to be!)
I definitely see where you are coming from. [name]Even[/name] my family members loved the name [name]Leo[/name] for my second son and felt that it was strong, but the DH just didn’t see it. Maybe it’s that -o on the end? I didn’t run [name]Milo[/name] past him yet as I have naming rights this time around :-). I’m sure if he thinks [name]Leo[/name] is soft he’ll think [name]Milo[/name] is too.
I [name]LOVE[/name] honesty! Thanks for your input. When my husband originally brought up the name [name]Rex[/name] for our oldest I instantly thought of it as a pets name. But I eventually started to see the versatility of the name and how it would grow with him. Now I couldn’t imagine him being named anything else. I guess I can see that with [name]Leo[/name] too.
I still like [name]Dean[/name] but some comments on the other thread got me questioning it a bit. Maybe I’m down to [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Dean[/name] now? Hmm…
Our last name ends in -en, does [name]Dean[/name] still work? I thought it was fine because of the EE sound in [name]Dean[/name]. Guess I should have asked this earlier. Whoops!
It begins with an H. Ok, something else I just thought about. My husbands grandfather (who is still alive) was actually a dean of two universities. Too weird to use the name?
I think [name]Rex[/name], [name]Troy[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] are a lot nicer together. Also I like that [name]Leo[/name] shares a E with [name]Rex[/name] and the O a [name]Troy[/name].
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Milo[/name] are both great, but I do prefer [name]Leo[/name] and think it goes better with your sibset. [name]Leo[/name] feels very strong to me (as do [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name]), whereas [name]Milo[/name] is on the softer side of names. [name]Dean[/name] and [name]Lars[/name] both work well too, but your last name ending in -en could make a problem for [name]Dean[/name]'s overall flow (depending on how your last name is pronounced). I don’t think the fact that your husband’s grandfather was a dean of two colleges makes [name]Dean[/name] any less useable though, in fact it might be an indirect way to honor him.
[name]Leo[/name], definitely. Especially with your sibset. [name]Milo[/name] has a sweet/ softer sound and sounds vastly different from your boys names. [name]Rex[/name], [name]Troy[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] blend nicely together.
I think this is why I like [name]Rex[/name], [name]Troy[/name] & [name]Dean[/name] the best–because [name]Rex[/name], [name]Troy[/name] & [name]Leo[/name] or [name]Rex[/name], [name]Troy[/name] & [name]Milo[/name] sound like they could be your pets’ names. Whereas if I heard you refer to [name]Rex[/name], [name]Troy[/name] and [name]Dean[/name], I would be more likely to assume they were your sons.
I agree with that too. I see [name]Leo[/name]/[name]Lee[/name] as being a cute name on a little boy, but it’s also cool for a teenager and sexy/handsome on a man. [name]Milo[/name] makes me think of the tweenies…!
