I have really been thinking about this name more and more recently. About a year and a half ago, I found out our [name]German[/name]/Chinese neighbors have a daughter named [name]Leona[/name]. They are no longer our neighbors, but the name has stuck with me.
I can kind of see it being stodgy, a la [name]Mildred[/name] or [name]Thelma[/name], but at the same time, I think the sound is lighter than many other ‘granny chic’ names. Im not sure about with Fu ([name]Baby[/name]'s would be surname). I do however, like the meaning, as it relates back to [name]Leopold[/name] and ultimately my grandfather that [name]Oscar[/name] was named for. By the way, there is no baby currently in the works, just brainstorming.
So, questions:
[name]Do[/name] you think it’s a nice name? Ugly and old? Or light and pretty?
Would it be weird/too repetitive/silly to have an [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Leopold[/name] and a [name]Leona[/name] ______?
If [name]Oscar[/name] goes by [name]Oscar[/name], I don’t see a problem in the combo. I like [name]Leona[/name], but I am really fond og the names [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Leonora[/name] and would pick one of them. I think any of these three go well with [name]Oscar[/name].
I do not love [name]Leona[/name], to me it just seems like [name]Leo[/name] with -na added to the end. I like [name]Eleanor[/name] a lot. To me, [name]Eleanor[/name] sounds much fresher than [name]Leona[/name], so if I were you, I would go with that.
All I can ever think of is [name]Leona[/name] [name]Lewis[/name], so I don’t like it myself, but it’s not a bad name. I do think it would be a little strange to have “leo” in both kids names, though.
This was the name of my maternal great grandma. It’s a fine name, but I don’t love it. I wish I did like it more, so I could consider it in a middle name slot, but it just really doesn’t do too much for me. Now, having said all of that, if you have a great association with the name, and it feels good and right to you, then go for it!
I love it! It’s old fashion and back in style again. It has more of a rocker chick or hipster emphasis now. Reminds me of the song, “Charm Attack” by [name]Leona[/name] Naess or the beautiful singer, [name]Leona[/name] [name]Lewis[/name].
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name!!! Matter of fact, if DH & have a daughter, we’re naming her [name]Leonie[/name]. We threw around [name]Leona[/name] tho too.
[name]Eleanor[/name] bores me. There are so many [name]El[/name] names out there. Almost every little girl I meet is [name]El[/name]—. [name]Leona[/name] & [name]Leonie[/name] - much more interesting!
I like [name]Leona[/name] and [name]Leonie[/name] both. I don’t think it’s weird that bro and sis would ‘share’ similar names, a bit boring, perhaps, but not weird. You can see it as a special connection between them instead:)
[name]Love[/name] [name]Leona[/name]! [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Leona[/name] are great together. It feels very light and pretty to me, although I think of [name]Leona[/name] [name]Lewis[/name] straightaway. I like the French [name]Leonie[/name] more than [name]Leona[/name], but [name]Leona[/name] is great.
