One of our top contenders for a girl’s name at the moment is [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], with big sister [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]'s vintage, pretty sound paired with our sweet [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. The only reservation my husband and I have…that his name is [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though we would give her the nickname Oni and request that our friends and family do the same, I worry that her little friends will call her [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think this would cause a problem down the track for us? Anyone been in a similar situation to us? Any and all thoughts welcome
I think that [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is beautiful and if she wanted to be called Oni she could.
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is one of my favourite names. I think there is a strong possibility she will be shortened to [name_u]Lee[/name_u] by people but that’s ok. There are a lot of boys with the same name as their fathers. If you love the name, I’d go for it.
Definitely use it!
I think it’s actually quite a sweet connection.
The [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] I know gets [name_f]Lele[/name_f] or Lo, which are alternatives you could push?
The only [name_u]Leoni[/name_u] I knew just went by her full name.
I don’t think it’s much of a problem. You can enforce the nickname you prefer when she’s little, but once she get’s older, it’s out of your hands, like with any name. [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is stunning, I’d use it.
I say go for it! Not an issue at all in my opinion. Also, I pronounce [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] “[name_m]Lay[/name_m]-Oh-Nee” so the [name_u]Lee[/name_u] sound isn’t even in there. I am [name_m]French[/name_m] though, so I’m not sure how it’s pronounced in [name_u]America[/name_u].
