Leontine/Leontyne

This is my favourite for a girl at the moment, and my husband loves it too, but we have a few questions, and we’d love some middle name suggestions.

Basically we’d pronounce it [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-on-[name_f]Tine[/name_f] (not TEEN), and we’re unsure about which spelling to use. I’m not too concerned because I think we’d be pronouncing people either way, but I’m curious about what you all think. Also, if you think we’re pronouncing it wrong then let us know! It’s one we’ve found online so we could be completely wrong, so don’t worry about correcting us!

Also, what middle names do you like with [name_f]Leontine[/name_f]? Our daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (after my husband’s mother), so we’re looking for something pretty ‘normal’, especially as [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] is pretty uncommon, so she would have a fall back ‘normal’ name. If you know what I mean? Anyway, we like:

[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f]

We do like these, but we need some fresh ideas! If you have any that you think we’d like then let us know!

Thanks in advance!

I actually think this is gorgeous, and both spellings are pretty magical. I’d probably go with [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] because it’s the most natural/expected looking, just to make life easier. I like the -tyne ending aesthetically but it does remind me of the [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_f]Tyne[/name_f] an awful lot.

[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous, and definitely stands out on your list. [name_f]Marie[/name_f] feels a bit dated/overused and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]/[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] feel a bit trendy to me. Maybe;
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f]/[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (maybe not formal enough but I think it adds a playful feel, and it’s cute with sister _____ [name_f]Rose[/name_f])
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]

Thank you! And I am leaning towards the [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] spelling for the reasons you mentioned. I love [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] & [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]!

Oh my gosh! This is a favorite of mine! For some reason I can’t get over a little girl with the nickname [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. It’s so cute! But, I usually use baby name world for pronunciations and according to that [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] is suppose to be pronounced either [name_m]LAY[/name_m] on teen or [name_u]LEE[/name_u] on teen, it’s not always right but that’s also the way I was told how to say it. And I would definitely spell it [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] because [name_f]Leontyne[/name_f] looks like a made up, cheap version to me.

For me, I paired it with [name_f]Marie[/name_f], so that’s my favorite, but some other suggestions:
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_u]Bleu[/name_u]/[name_u]Blue[/name_u]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]/[name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] top three:
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_u]Bleu[/name_u]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]

Thanks for the information about the pronunciation! I do like the -teen pronunciation too so it wouldn’t bother me too much if that turns out to be the correct way. I’d read that it was -teen, but it seems to be different on many websites! That’s why I wanted to ask on here to be sure as I don’t want to be pronouncing the name wrong!

I like [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] & [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! Thank you!

I love [name_f]Leontine[/name_f]! I prefer that spelling too, and I would pronounce it [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-on-tine like you. I love [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] from your list, that is stunning!

As for suggestions:
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]

This name was on my list. It’s still good, although I don’t love it enough.

Oops, forgot about this thread! Thanks for the rest of the answers so far! I like [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f] & [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]!

I really like [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] (though I’d pronounce it TEEN or TEEN-eh instead of [name_f]TINE[/name_f]).

I think something with a nice full a sound would make for a nice middle name.
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/ [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
