Leopold - Usable as a First?

Hey guys! So I have adored the name [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] for a long time now, and I’ve always back-and-forthed about using it as a first. I have it in my combos now, as a middle (it’s in my signature: [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]), but do you think it’s usable in the first name spot? Would a little [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] be teased? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] or [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]? I just can’t decide!
I would use the nickname [name_m]Leo[/name_m], if that helps.
Thanks!

I do like [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] as a middle, but I personally don’t think it would work well as a first name. I do think a little [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] might be teased just because it’s such a grand name, but I love it with [name_m]Henry[/name_m]! Definitely [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] has the best flow.

I really like both combinations, and love the nickname [name_m]Leo[/name_m], so I do think it could work as a first, but I agree with jackiet that he could be teased. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] is particularly lovely, though

I don’t think [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] has enough teasing potential to be unusable as a first, especially with [name_m]Leo[/name_m] there as an option if that does become an issue. I personally really like [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], very handsome and sophisticated, but I can still imagine it on a little boy too. My favourite of your combos is definitely [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], although I’m not sure if [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] would flow better.

I love the name [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and your combos are great. [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is so handsome and a little more refreshing to see than [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. Go with [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]! It’s very usable.

Thank you all for your input! It looks like we’re 50/50  I certainly feel a little more confident in [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], but I still love [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. @myosotis, I agree that [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] has a nicer flow than [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I’ve never even considered that as an option, but I like it.
If anyone else would like to chime in, that would be lovely, because I’m quite torn! If not, I’ll keep thinking about it. Knowing myself, I’ll end up switching it around quite a bit! You’ve all been helpful, thanks again

It seems that opinion on the teasing potential depends on which side of the Atlantic people live on. I think it’s perfectly usable, especially with [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nickname. I quite like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], though given the popularity of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] perhaps it depends how common you would want his first name to be.

I adore the name [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I personally wouldn’t use [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] as a first name, because it reminds me of [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and [name_m]Loeb[/name_m], the famous murderers (those were their last names). I think [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] is a fantastic name, but because of that association, I personally wouldn’t put it in the first name spot.

I think [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] is a great name. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is a fantastic nick name, too. I far prefer it to [name_m]Henry[/name_m].

@rainpoppy: That’s a great point about location. I’m in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], so the teasing potential is probably a little greater here, though I can see it being less than in the US. As far as popularity, it doesn’t bother me too much. In theory, I’d prefer for my kids’ names to be less popular, but I seem to be drawn to names that lots of other people love as well! [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is my #1 girl name, and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is my #1 boy name. Both reasonably popular, but usually I can put that aside if I love a name. @cashmeresocks, I’d never heard of [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and [name_m]Loeb[/name_m], but after a quick google search… yikes. Once again, I’m Canadian, so the number of people who would make the connection is probably (hopefully!) lower than in the US.
Thank you so much, everyone. I think I’ll keep [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] for now, and see if I start feeling more comfortable with [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] as a first after seeing so much support for it.

[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] isn’t my style but it’s doable with the nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] could be cute too as a first but still isn’t my style.

Obviously it is!! I don’t understand why it would not. It’s a classic name in [name_f]France[/name_f]. I know at least 4 [name_m]Leopold[/name_m].
I prefer [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] over [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
