Less than 3 weeks to go - second doubts!

We’ve had [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] picked out since [name_f]May[/name_f]. It was either that or [name_m]Jarvis[/name_m].

It’s now less than three weeks to go, and I’m just not feeling it anymore. I’ve been thinking that it’s just nervousness and hormones that makes me second doubt the name. I don’t think it’s just that though, and as of now I can’t even imagine myself naming our son [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]. It’s so bland and boring! I can’t really see myself using [name_m]Jarvis[/name_m], either. Husband still thinks we should go with [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], but he’s open for other suggestions as well.

So could you guys offer us some new suggestions? We have also discussed [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], and a couple of other biblical names. It doesn’t have to be biblical though, and I’d like to see whats out there except the top 100 names or so.

Hmm, hard to know whether you might end up coming back around to [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] if it really was “the” name for so long. I think you’re right to look for another name, but I notice you described [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] as “bland and boring”–I don’t see it that way at all! I think it’s a more unexpected biblical name (at least I don’t think I’ve ever met a [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]).

In terms of alternatives, I like all the other names you list (I like them all but this would be my ranking from most favorite to least favorite: [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]), but I think they’re all much more popular than [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]–I don’t know if that’s what you mean by bland or boring, or if you’re going more on style/feel.

From your signature I love the name [name_u]Micah[/name_u] which shows up for boys and girls so you must like it as well. Would you consider it for your baby boy?

I also though of [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] for you, since it shares some sounds with [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], but I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing if you’re looking for something different.

Other “J” names: [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Jonas[/name_m], [name_m]Julius[/name_m]

[name_u]Micah[/name_u] is very versatile and a beautiful name!

I really like [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]!! It is far from bland and boring, in fact I would describe it as unique & interesting! It is not popular but familiar. Out of the names you listed, I like it best. I also like the suggestions of [name_u]Micah[/name_u] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. But, if the only reason you are reconsidering [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] is that you are worried it’s bland and boring, I would not worry about that at all. It’s a very striking name & very handsome.

I’m neutral about [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]- I had a not so wonderful experience with a [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] so it’s difficult for me to look at the name objectively but I don’t think it’s a boring name. I’m going to be the odd one out and say that maybe you’re getting cold feet because you actually don’t like the name as much as you thought you would before you decided it was to be your baby’s name. If it were me, I would probably take my feelings at face value instead of ignoring them; they may not go away then you’ll have some name regret. That being said, I like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] most of the names on your list. Mostly I wanted to comment to give you some other suggestions similar to [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] to mull around and see if you like better:

halloween_jacqueline - We might come back to [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], who knows. I know that the other names I listed are popular as well (except for [name_u]August[/name_u]) and that’s why I’d like some more unexpected/unusual suggestions. Unfortunately I don’t like the names you suggested.

katiem333 - I actually think you’re right about me not liking the name as much as I thought I did. This whole pregnancy I’ve felt pressured to have a name ready and [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] was the one I liked the most a few months ago, but I don’t know if it ever was perfect. Maybe no name ever will be, either? From your suggestions I’m ready to re-discuss [name_m]Abel[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] and [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] with my husband. His name is on your list as well

aub2 - Is is, but it doesn’t feel entirely right for this baby. Maybe next time around?

maurab - [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] is listed as #57 and rising, and it feels like everyone love names ending in -iah at the moment. Maybe that’s why it feels bland and boring? I dunno.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u]! It’s handsome. I also really love [name_m]Xander[/name_m] and [name_m]Xavier[/name_m].

[name_m]Abel[/name_m] is cute and uncommon.

I just commented but I’ve come to a realization. What about [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as the full name? [name_u]Josie[/name_u] isn’t ranking for boys but be aware that [name_u]Josie[/name_u] for girls is #251.

I had NO idea [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] was at #57! I have never met a little (or big) [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]. I can understand you possibly wanting something less popular, although I love the name.

Has anyone suggested [name_u]Asa[/name_u]? I really like that one. I like [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] a lot, but go with your gut on it.

It’s just SO hard! I do like many of the names you guys have suggested, but I still feel like we might not have found THE one yet. I’ve added [name_m]Enoch[/name_m], [name_m]Abraham[/name_m], [name_u]Asa[/name_u] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] to the list.

Does anyone have some more “modern” suggestions? The kind of names I like but can’t use: [name_u]Haven[/name_u], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_m]Kensington[/name_m], [name_m]Kynaston[/name_m], [name_m]Jaston[/name_m], [name_m]Dominic[/name_m], [name_m]Huck[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m]…

Maybe something like [name_u]Riley[/name_u], or [name_m]Casper[/name_m]? Sorry guys, I’m just thinking out loud.

I know a 5 year old boy named [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], though in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] it’s pronounced Ju: sia and his sister is [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] (Je MEE ma)

Oh! [name_m]How[/name_m] great  Where in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] did you grow up? I was born in Karlskrona, Blekinge, grew up in a suburb to Gothenburg and did my bachelor studies in Växjö, Småland. Have you considered a Swedish name? To pass own your Swedish inheritance. Hopefully you can persuade him of some of the names. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] I could help! Not to be nosy but are you going to teach your kids Swedish?

I grew up in the middle of nowhere between Stockholm and Uppsala. Never been to Karlskrona, but I like Gothenburg and especially Liseberg haha! There are some Swedish/Scandinavian names that I like, but I’m more drawn to American/English names. We did briefly discuss using a Swedish middle name and we’re not sure what we are going to do yet. Me and my siblings all have two middle names (one biblical, one Swedish - mine’s [name_f]Clara[/name_f] so still quite international) and I’ve always liked that I’ve had them. I don’t plan on moving back to [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] but I still think it would be nice to have one to fall back on, if needed. I grew up speaking both English and Swedish and that’s what I plan on doing with our children as well. My husband doesn’t speak Swedish so it will be up to me and my family.
